The most effective technique for asphalt is to paint it on to a sheet of acetate, let it dry and then peel it off and cut to shape and size - using the super-smooth yet textured underside as the upper surface in the diorama.

The 7 different pots I have of the stuff has sat a year now and still as good as when it was first opened to use! The dry crackle textures are quite good for your DAK dioramas or riverbeds these I also use for stippling onto my models under sponsons and tracks etc too!

Really useful Video - am just looking at buying a new pot of ak for basing a 40k army. Really rate their products and seeing them side by side was great.

Thanks for popping in. Good luck with the basing plan for the 40K.

27:19 the thing about painting the crackle paint on top is that it elevates the cracked earth. In the reference pictures I have taken (and the stuff I could find on Google) is that it occurs where wet mud has dried (quickly). Water flows to the lowest part of, for example, the road and thus cracked ground looks more realistic at the lowest part of the base or diorama.

For the asphalt, use a spatula to make it smooth. I used a metal ruler dipped in water and it came up very smooth.

Good idea on the metal ruler I have a spare one I could try.

Tonight I took a small sheet of plexiglass and put a generous amount of their sandy desert on it. Then I mixed up some really fine sand and some smaller light tan talus rock and smooshed it in. The result is a nice rocky wasteland type desert. This will be the base for my 1/12 scale toy pics with Clone troopers. Then I will put a desert backround behind. A very nice product. Looking forward to using the other ones

Great stuff. It certainly benefits from adding extra details and rock bits in the mix.

Will get Sandy Desert and Desert Sand next week (Jan. 2022) and build my DAK forces and some terrain for Flames of War with it. I hope it turns out nice. I found the naming irritating too.

Hairsprays good for locking in sealing the pigments on diorama bases! I discovered it when I was using the krycel from percission ice and snow to cure and harden that stuff!

Thanks for the tip. I have not really used any snow materials but I do have a model I bought that had glass-bead type snow which really sparkles.

@@RottenMechGaming inhale a couple of AKs diorama textures for snow too and there water gel! The micro balloons is just krycel but really nice and real like and the texture water when stippled as a test on a clear bit of packaging plastic it was absolutely beautiful! I still have it today the test peice it was to nice to throw away!

@@AFV85 What is the product that has the micro ballons in? Is that just Snow texture?

@@AFV85 Great thanks. Just invested in a couple of items from the range including the sprinkle/sparkle and basic snow. Hoping to complete a video on the results.

It's the desert sand I use it's lighter but gritty like the sandy desert it's perfect but I did just today pick up the sandy desert to try with it for modulation and to break up one big diorama base of all desert sand! But yeah nothing like the sandy beach stuff! I might even order that for a top layer on top of the other 2 kinds like in dips etc whare sands brown and builds up! I just seen you dry ground one and the desert sands basically the same stuff! I actually thought it was there foe a second till you said dry ground! Maybe a slight more gritty texture but not much! Same colour anyway! I use if for dry ground and paint it so definitely does look same stuff! Just checked mine to your video same stuff really!

My Desert sand one is very light not red atoll! But yours says sandy desert mine says Desert sand! Totally different testxtures and colours but I do like your sandy desert to the Desert sand! The Asphalt and the concrete one's i use alot there very nice when you have a few shots of working with it, but the asphalt stinks to high heaven! After a year of mine sitting the light Dry crackle one turned to black watery liquid but after a quick shake it was back to like it was! I wet the end of a ruler and smear it over my base with Asphalt one
@AFV853 жыл бұрын
There concrete and Asphalt are really nice and you can smash them of layer thick n left to dry so they all crack!
@RottenMechGaming3 жыл бұрын
That’s a handy tip thanks

The crackle effects work better with a glossy base
@RottenMechGaming3 жыл бұрын
Good tip thanks, worth me applying some gloss first then before the crackle.

@@RottenMechGaming Heard good things about a thin layer of PVA as a undercoat as well.
@Wijkert Жыл бұрын
Not convinced that the corrosion texture actually looks like corrosion. The color does, but the texture does not. At least not if you compare it to reference pictures. For 28-35mm scale we need something smaller like actual pigment or backing soda.
