New music from AK Rebel, "Rise" encourages us to rise from oppression, embrace our heritage and reach our full potential as people.
Message from AK Rebel:
This video couldn't of happened without the help of the community coming together. I want to thank Aaron Tolen & UAA for allowing us to shoot some scenes at the Camai room. I want to thank Miss WEIO Piiyuuk (Olivia Shields) for bringing her family and friends to drum and sing for us. Big thank you to Casey Furgeson for your amazing acting skills, this couldn't of happened without you. Last but not least thank you to my daughter Aaliyah, my Inupiaq sister Ayyu, my little bro Byron Nicholai, my big bro Junya Gisa & my brother Bryan Leiser of Shoe String Studios for helping me create this video. None of this could of been done without you all.

This is one of the most powerful songs I've ever heard. I am so proud of them. I ain't no punk, but I can barely listen without coming to tears. I'm a 48 yo Black Man from TX, and they speak to my soul directly. Whoever u r, whatever ur heritage, lineage, or culture, it is the single greatest. Let no man or group bury your sense of self, and relevance. At times when I don't understand their language, I still feel their struggle. Fight, stand firm, prevail.

Beautiful 💗 Thank you 🙏🏼 That’s what I want...to reconnect with my true Yaqui traditions and culture but my grandpa who was Yaqui has already passed. Unfortunately my parents have been colonized (americanized). Wish my grandpa was still here to ask him about his life and find out more about our Yaqui ancestors, traditions and culture 😢

I like the message, however, I'm not religious. Though I do believe in a power greater than myself...good song. I also, do not believe that depicting natives that have turned to the streets as gangsters is ok. Their family's pushed religion on them calling them evil. Then go around saying that they're gangsters is the most RIDICULOUS thing I have ever seen. Religion is a white man thing.

Killing the Indian, save the man did. Let apply to you Alaskan Natives. It was an initiative aimed at us American Indian tribes of the lower 48. We got reservations, you got Corporations.. different struggle bro. I like what you’re doing but don’t forget the privileges AK natives have as opposed to us in the lower 48. Our struggles aren’t yours

Corporations hardly make any difference. I visited the rez and it looked a lot like home, Tanax̂-Amix̂ aka St. Paul, AK. The difference in their initiative doesn’t discount our shared struggles.
@AngelHunterAK
@AngelHunterAK 4 жыл бұрын
Getting the corporations wasn't easy. The state, backed by oil and gas companies, sued to keep us from forming local government to kick us off the land and use it. Thousands were lost to disease, dozens upon dozens subjected to inhumane chemical and biological testing, homes bulldozed down and still looked down upon and targeted for for racial discrimination. My dad was so traumatized by bia schooling that he never taught me his native tongue. We are all survivors as we ahare struggles. They my be different but to separate our unification seems callous.
@adalinepete8040
@adalinepete8040 Жыл бұрын
It sure did apply to us. Look at all the traumatic history we have here. Just because you dont know how we have struggled as a people does not make it any different to any other Indigenous peoples.
