Akai Force 3.2: Touch FX Setup Tutorial

I've had a few requests for a Touch FX setup tutorial, so here it is! These new inserts have potential that isn't fully realised in my opinion, and in this video I explain why, in addition to showing how they work and how to set them up in a nicely useable fashion.

Yep it’s extremely powerful. I don’t think Akai have done a good job marketing the Force, still a lot of people out there, especially in the MPC community, who don’t know how capable it is.

Thanks for this & hopefully Akai will take your idea about having multiple touch faders on 1 screen that would make way more sense...& would be like having 4-8 Korg Kaossilators in 1 box...#AKAI make this happen!!!

I think there should be another tab for touchFX(es) in the mixer view. One cursor per track, each being the touch slider of the track (if set). And with a shortcut beneath to access the complete touchFX view of the track. This way it would be easy to use live and the knobs would be automaically mapped in knobs screen mode! What do you think?

Great video and demo. I always enjoy getting your take on things! I don’t know exactly what Akai intended for this, but I tend to think of Touch FX as a “hurry effect.” Most of the stuff you can do with the Touch FX, you can already do with macros, and you can get much more detailed. But it takes some time to set it up. These you can just throw on a track fast and start using them. I may be totally off in left field, but was just my reaction to it.

Thank you! Yeah I think that view makes sense. I also wonder if they have things like the midi mix in mind, those touch strips would work nicely mapped to watermark faders…

I think this was intended for the MPC studio II which has the touchstrip. Since the MPC key 61 also has the strip I think they just added it to all the MPC/Force kinda redundantly. Maybe they can add a slide-in Touchstrip similar to the new shortcuts slide-in that can be accessible on any screen or maybe show multiple strips on the XY screen.

There is definitely a way around this instead of just using the knobs for your effects performances. Maybe someone here can explain better than I can but you can also use the XY pad for this. If your in an editing section on the XY pad, jog the big knob until you see column 1, column 2, column 3 and so forth within the XY pad. If you have Touch FX enabled on each of these columns you are definitely good to go! No more switching back and forth when you can finally see the columns all mapped together and your ready to perform! Hope This helps.

I’ve had this working with XY macros and I suppose you could map them to the touch FX in the same way as knobs, but it only lets you have 4 columns which is a bit limiting. Thanks for the idea though, appreciate it!
