I have had a few dirty 60s over the years, I think spending the extra few quid to find a good one is worth it

I have two MPC60s (Sydney based) that both have the "ghost sample" problem where random RAM contents appear softly underneath the normal sample playback audio. Its as if the least significant bits are randomly corrupted. Its a common problem for which no one seems to know of a solution. Where would you take such a device for repair of such a tricky digital problem? Its such a specialist skill. I wonder if all MPC 60s are now developing this ailment. One of mine is worse than the other. Would be interesting to know if you experience this and know of any leads to solving the problem. If you want to test for it, a low sine bass sound is useful as it has no upper harmonics to mask the issue. I find it can take a bit of playing around triggering lots of sounds before it shows up. Having other sounds it RAM is useful as you can hear them "ghosting" in least significant bits of the sine. Nice pad in the background BTW! :)

I'm happy to take a look at one of them for you if you want to ship to Melbourne. I can put the scope on it and see whats going wrong. It could be the the L4003 memory controller on the board. I hear they are so failure prone it was changed in the MPC 60 II to another chip! I have searched to try and find a source for them but with no luck so I'm guessing its a custom IC. The other possible cause could be the memory decode logic could be not working correctly (possibly getting the chip select wrong at some points). The early LS logic gets quite hot and was quite prone to failure from time to time also! Drop me an email if you want to chat more about it!

What's the difference between this and the earlier unlisted vid? edit: it seems like the voice track is a lot more muffled in this version. Also it's a second shorter and the title is slightly less exuberant.

When the video was encoded the encoder latched on to high frequences around 11k causing some serious ear pain for some people :D

Amazing work. Question: my mpc 60II buttons all stopped responding but it turns on and is stuck on the main page. any ideas what i can do? thanks so much
@100ThingsIDo Жыл бұрын
Hey there. First I could check the connections to the board. The front panel is something your hitting all the time so its possible things can come loose. If thats no good there are (working from memory) two 74 series logic chips that run the scanning of the buttons something could of made them go bad. Best to get a tech to look at it for you if its not just loose cables unless you have skill with eletronics. Hope that helps! :D

Thanks so much for the response. I sent it to a tech months ago for this issue and when they got it, the buttons were working. And I got it back and was able to use for a couple weeks and now they stopped again. I feel comfortable opening it up and and seeing if a connector is loose, but do you like telling me where about that is? Very much appreciate the response because shipping it back and forth to the tech is adding up 🙏
