I also noticed compressing the diva vocal track brought out the room a little bit.

Yes definitely. When you compress in that style it brings up breath, noise floor etc. it’s great on drums. It gives you that real “close in” feeling. Basically you’re completely reducing the dynamic range of the signal.

Applied the elements explained then put the MPC Vocal Tuner, Harmonizer and a dose of Distortion on top to make it cut through. Amazing what we can get out of this box. Not a Grammy winning but it was fun to do and the result is not disappointing. Would welcome your views on autotune, harmonizing and distortion (e.g. on bass and voice) at one point!
