AKAI MPD18 Unboxing and Demo!

I'm sorry about all the latency in my video :( something went wrong with the recording so I tried my best to highlight all the different topics as best I could. I'll do better next time, I promise!!
This week I received a used AKAI MPD18! I purchased this as a means to facilitate my recording process when I'm recording live instruments into Ableton Live. In this video I'll go over a couple different methods of my controller setup and give you a sneak peek into an upcoming track!

Man if you happen to learn about a way to edit the settings of this one on a modern MAc, let me know. The editor app was made for old systems and mine has a messed up MIDI notes setting.

It looks a lot like the mpd 16 it would be nice if akai offered USB drivers for the mpd16. The thing still works fine with midi but simply no drivers made for the thing, makes no sense.

I just bought one of these today and it won’t work for me. It turns on and shows the signal in my daw but I get no output sound 😭

Edit: just realized what video you commented on sorry lol. And if by the usb, is it hooked up to any midi instrument or vst within your daw? And which daw are you using it with?

@@TrateMusic I’m using ableton live 10, I was able to set it up in preferences and I set up a drum rack for it also but I still get no output sound. I tried using Vsts too but got nothing. Been stressing for the past 2 hours searching the web to figure this out. I have a akai mpk 225 and it works just fine, so I’m not sure what going on here.

@@bmonterroso in preferences > Link MIDI, make sure that under MIDI ports, the three options for Input (track, Sync, and remote) are all on, and off for the two outputs. Also, on your Akai, when it's on Bank A, the lower-left pad starts at C1. Are the i strummers on your drum rack below or above that octave?

Can the audio from the mpd come out some head phones or no

Great question. The MPD is strictly a MIDI controller, so it does not create its own audio. The audio comes from your computer that you hook the device up to. Your headphones would have to be plugged into your computer.

Yes, that's correct. These kind of devices only trigger audio from a computer or synthesizer, but do not create sounds themselves. Are you looking to find a device that can create its own sounds?

@@TrateMusic yeah I want a device and been looking at the mpd218, I want something that is plug and play, I was always intrigued by beat apps in the iPhone when I was a kid but nothing beats the feeling of pressing those squares and feeling like Kanye

@@yung_arash perhaps something you might be interested in is the Roland SP404 sampler. You can either program samples or record them direct from the device, and it actually generates sound
