That is cool.. I've never seen that adapter before! I met a guy from a hamfest a few years ago and I went to see his collection of reel-reel units Best collection I've ever seen. Probably 50 on display (half in his living room, and half in a special room in the basement) with at least another 50 in boxes. He showed off his favorites to me and I spent an hour with him just talking and listening to music. He said he's an electrical engineer, but is out of work right now. I took him out for lunch for giving me the time. I figured I'd see him again at other hamfests, but I've never seen him since. My guess is that he got a job and possibly moved. Thanks for showing your AKAI to us! -- Atco

Brill! I knew the adapters existed, but I never saw any. Now put on the reels from the Concord Sound Camera! What a laugh!

This was my 2nd tape recorder. I had the 7 inch reel adapters. Used to take the X-V on the train and listen on headphones in 1971. Problems with it were pinch roller pressure, the roller going bad due to it being natural rubber and the pressure pad getting thin. The comments on the wow are due to these. Because of the age of your X-V there will be a few other issues. All of these are fixable. I'm very surprised by the almost new cosmetic condition. A real or reel collectors piece.

I WISH I COULD FIND A POWER CORD FOR ONE OF THESE
@henrydn70073 жыл бұрын
@@stratokim From memory I think this is a square 3 pin plug. Can you take a photo of the AC connector on the X-V. I am in Japan and perhaps could find one.

This was great! I'd also love to see an adapter for 10-1/2" reels for a 7" recorder.

Neat machine. The only thing is I hear a little bit of flutter. You may want to check the capstan belt and maybe oil up some of the mechanical parts. Other than that, it's a really good, rare machine. Thanks for posting.

I wonder if this tape recorder is 2-track or 4-track stereo. UPDATE: This tape recorder is the latter, meaning it is a 4 track 2 channel recorder.

Very Interesting Video. Thank you a lot. Can this machine record with tape speed 1.2 cm/sek? Would be great to have a demo of low speed recording and cross field technic.

@@SoundsVintage My dad had an old AKAI M-8, from about 1963, I think. It had a lovely laid-back sound, with its valve amplifiers..

Did that tape recorder come with the holes pre-drilled? I'm asking because I have a couple of tape recorders that take the 7-inch reels and I've been thinking about drilling holes on the sides of one of the tape recorders to attach the adaptors so it can take the 10-inch reels. One thing that annoys me is when I record a CDs to audio reels and the tape runs out when the last track on a CD is still going. Then I have to have the last track at the beginning of Side B. Some people wonder why anyone uses these tape recorders. With me, I enhance the sound quality better where my tape recordings sound so much better than the CD's I recorded them from.
@SoundsVintage4 жыл бұрын
Hello. Happy to hear that your still enjoying analog tape. The holes were pre-drilled, Akai must have had the adapters in mind when designing the recorder.

I can't make out the tape box very clearly, but I think it says Tchaikovsky at the top? From the image I'd make a guess at Swan Lake.

If you mean the music on the large reels, yeah it could be Sousa. Both sound really nice
