This is why oda should’ve shown a little of the akainu battle during the bar flashback 1 year after the battle and what further motivated him from leaving and joining the Blackbeard pirates afterwards. Garp pretty much didn’t use a galaxy impact attack on aokiji while aokiji pretty much showed a new attack in ice glove than showed like 3 or 4 of his typical attacks minus the peasant beak and partisan, most of the battle got off screened anyways(not surprised) Oda might be saving aokiji for the red haired pirates battle where he takes on shanks/ Ben beckman and carrying the Blackbeard pirates to allow teach will edge out shanks. I'm taking current Fleet Admiral Akainu winning high-extreme diff, probably extreme. But only if he has Advanced Conquerors Haki. If he doesn't, which I highly doubt, because he is just to important of an antagonist. We are in the final saga so we can expect Oda to give endgame characters that we haven't seen yet in action or in a long time or fighting seriously, to get Advanced Conquerors Haki, so they can be opponents for Luffy and other top tiers. If current Akainu doesn't have ACoc, then it's old Garp, again big doubt. In Marineford I definetely believe Old Garp could have killed Akainu. Other than Mihawk and Shanks I think he was the strongest person there. Even stronger than old WB, because old WB was incredibly sick. Also Akainu was already messed up from WB and Garp would have blindsided him. Sengoku saved that mans life in that situation.

Narratively katakuri doesn’t have to be stronger than king or queen because there’s no purpose his portrayal doesn’t require him to be. Especially when we see characters go all out like king and queen + katakuri we seen there full strength. It’s easy to use feats as a argument but with a lot of the top tiers portrayal and narrative is our way of gauging how strong they are going to be until we get the on screen feats. If we seen Akainu full power as the fleet admiral and we compared those feats to other characters I wouldn’t mind but we don’t have those feats yet

One of the worst takes I have ever seen. Multiple old characters have been said to not be as strong as they once were. Rayleigh and Whitebeard were both said to past their prime, unless they were also lying even though it's been reinforced multiple times? Garp says he's gotten weaker because he has, but even an old Pirate King level guy is able to fold most of the verse. And if he was just as strong in his prime that only serves to bolster Akainu since an Aokiji who was holding back (he didn't use his awakening nor does it make any narrative sense for one of the most compassionate Admirals to try and kill his mentor) was able to contend with him. Chances are Akainu does have Conqueror's, the guy not only has the strength and will power worthy of it (unless you think Boa, Yamato, and fucking Kidd are more deserving of it), his predecessor has been confirmed to have it so logically it makes sense for him to have it. I'll have to disagree. Though I do agree that prime Garp is most likely stronger, Marineford Garp would definitely be weaker than Akainu. Even if Whitebeard couldn't use haki, his power was still unmatched and Akainu took a blow that split Marineford in half, and he was completely fine. Whitebeard was still the strongest pirate in the world even in Marineford, his sickness did hold him back a bit, but his strength and power were unaffected. The main thing that would be affected would be his stamina, because he couldn't fight for as long as he used to. And Akainu was matching Whitebeard, and was the only one in Marineford to really go toe to toe with him. If you watch the anime, then I'd understand why you'd think Whitebeard was demolishing Akainu, but it's the complete opposite in the manga. Every time we see Akainu vs Whitebeard in the manga, almost every time, Akainu had the upper hand, even after Whitebeard's sneaked him. So in Marineford, Akainu was much stronger than we give him credit for. Now post time skip, he's definitely on a much different level. So my take, prime garp vs Akainu, most like Prime garp Marineford garp vs akainu, then Akainu wins but will still a challenging fight Post time skip Akainu vs Garp, then Akainu would probably low diff Garp

My honest Opinion, Healthy Old Garp/Roger are stronger than Marineford Akainu. But Current Akainu is considerably stronger than Marineford Akainu. Because of 10 Days Duel, Haki Improvement, Possible DF Awakening and for the sake of plot. So, Current Akainu> Old Garp Extreme Diff. Until we see more of Akainu.

Also just because Roger said they fought many times does not mean they are equal, because we have seen smoker beat luffy 3 out of 4 times so he is stronger than luffy. Also we know that garp did not fight Roger in his prime as the only people he fought were WB, and rocks unless you believe that Roger fought him during god valley which would not make them equals as Roger would have fought the rocks pirates, rocks himself and also garp. Akainu was stated by Oda to be the strongest marine, was he not ? Why doesn't it settle the argument ? Akainu was already a monster at Marineford, I remember him going solo against a flurry of WB commanders in his pursuit of Luffy. Many people chimed in, but none could stop him. Marco, Vista, Jinbe, even Croc. It took Shanks and an official order from the fleet admiral Sengoku, to actually stop him. Akainu probably trained like hell to become stronger than he was back then. He strikes me as the kind of marine with such discipline and will to crush pirates, that he would train like no one to be able to face the likes of Shanks. So he already got his power boost, off screen.
