To be fair I totally agree with everything Akala is saying here, but the question was specifically about the custom's union and "I don't really have a specific view on that" isn't a great answer so think the host was trying to reframe to get a more interesting response from Akala which he did.

You missed the best bit where he was asked his opinion on euthanasia and he replied 'I don't have a strong opinion on that'.
