The V50 Pro SE is more or less impossible to find in the UK, but I somehow managed to get hold of one. After watching your extremely helpful video, I knew this was the right camera for me - and I'm extremely happy with it! Thanks! My only gripe - and this goes for almost all action cam manufacturers - is that Akaso doesn't produce lens caps/covers for these little gems - you'd think, given the amount of accessories that they include, a little piece of plastic that helps protect the most import part of the camera wouldn't be too much to ask! A couple of screen protectors for the touch screen would be very welcome, too.

I bought the V50 Pro after watching your review because you were the only one that really tested the external mic and so far I've been very happy with it. My first external mic was a bust so I sent it back and the second works great. I admit the Akaso customer service is very responsive and helpful, though they wanted me to reload my OS in an effort to fix the mic. After having tested my friends mic, I knew it wasn't my camera. He purchased the camera on my recommendation and has not been disappointed either. The only drawbacks I've found with this camera is the poor response from the touch screen and the fact that I've not figured out how to turn off the Bluetooth connection to my phone when I'm using the app. Honestly these are minor issues considering the price difference between this camera and the GoPro. Have to say I'm a little disappointed that the SE came out just weeks after I purchased the Pro, since I'd really like to have 4K60. I appreciate your reviews, especially the fact that you took the camera for a ride, since that is primarily how I plan to use mine. Thanks again for the great reviews.

Yep, that edge jelly effect of EIS is clearly visible in SE. Watch those trees on the left side of the frame.

Your videos are helpful for sure. I'm a first time camera buyer. I expect a camera to be 'all around' indoor/outdoor. My work is home improvement/work site inspections. Camera would be body or helmet mounted. Often will create YT videos indoor for classes. Maybe use it for a dash cam. I'm not a tech person by any stretch of the imagination. The VX Pro SE seems to be right up my alley. After physically viewing the work, being able to scrutinize the job site via video helps to catch things I might not have noticed in person. Plus, the external mic can be used. The SE sounded good with just the internal mic. I don't know much about editing, but I can learn. I've subbed. Thanks.

Glad I could help! I do think it really depends on what you are going to use it for. I definitely use my GoPro more than I use my Akaso, but its a fantastic camera at its price point. Plus today im actually testing the insta360 One R. For me the big bonuses of the GoPro are the Sound and how wide it shoots. But if thats not as important, the akaso is a great camera. But also look at the Akaso Brave 6 Plus (if you need external audio) and the Brave 7 LE (no external audio, but the camera is rock solid!)

Great video. I just picked one up for 62 dollars for a factory refurbished. I added the 10 dollar mic. Looks like a great camera for my motorcycle helmet but man my old runcam II 1080P at 60 frames a second shoots better than this and it has been through a bunch of hard RC airplane crashes. The 2.7K and 4K are great for what I bought this for. AKASO needs to fix the 1080P 60 or I bet they get a lot of returns on both the P50 Pro and P50 Pro SE.

@@gregtoope That is evident. I am waiting for the prices to come down further on the OSMO action cam if an updated version comes out. I was going to buy the current old version, but for 60 dollars this OKASA V50 PRO SE will work great for this summer riding season. I ride a dual sport so half the time I am on mountain trails. The Go Pro is definitely better for riding dirt because the image stabilization is the best. I just can't say I would use it enough to justify the price. Happy riding to you. Hello, can you clarify if this camera records worse in image quality in 1080 than in 2.7 and 4k? I mean quality, sharpness and detail, not being able to enlarge the image more, and I mean if there is a specific problem in this camera with the 1080. I have it, but I use 1080 60 because I don't want very large files, I use it without stabilizer and with the distortion correction, because they are videos with little action and I hate the fisheye effect, but ultimately I wanted to know if the 1080 (in 30 and 60fps?) of this camera loses special quality. Thanks a lot! And I have a question, in general, recording at 1080 will give a similar quality to 2.7 or 4k, as long as you don't enlarge it on quite large screens, or not? Does it also depend on the camera, which by default can record in worse 1080 quality just so that it doesn't use that resolution as much? thank you!!

A lot of sound clipping with the internal microphone on the bike, but I like that there was very little wind noise. The video quality is okay, a bit wash out, flat and it favors a green/yellowish cast, I am a fan of cameras that favor magenta instead, but I guess you can correct that on postproduction but it's like fighting the impossible and it never looks normal or punchy, it is best when you get the magenta straight out of the camera. When you were walking, image stabilization did make a huge different on 4K/30FPS compared to the 4K60FPS no IES. All in all, I think it is a great little camera, but at that price, just go for a new older model GoPro 7/8 and you still get better results. I appreciate that you take the time to review all these lesser-known brands, but to be honest, plenty of time you can get the real deal for very little extra money and be more satisfied with the results.

Me too. I unboxed a brand new unit, charged the batteries, inserted the SD card. It worked until I started to configure it - then a blank screen. Just the blue indicator strip lights up now. I thought maybe I had not charged the battery enough, but still a dud. Very disappointed!

It sounded like there was some distortion on the external mic while on the motorcycle. I had this same problem with an OSMO with EXT. mic, only worse. I use a GoPro Hero 7 with the mic adapter and get very good audio on the bike. I'm trying to find a less expensive alternative and a more reliable alternative than GoPro but with good audio. Have you tried different mic's with the Akaso?

Akaso only seems to work with their mic. something in the wiring. The Akaso Brave 6 Plus and their new USBC mic work much better.

Hello Sir Another Great Review. I just purchased this camera (It arrives tomorrow). It seems out of all the Akaso cameras this camera offers the best bang for the buck. It has 4K 30 with EIS and 4k60 without but which is becoming the next standard it seems ( except for 5k on the hero 9). I would not be surprised Akaso and other budget camera makers come out in 2021 with 4k60 with EIS cameras. I have a question about your intro and editing software. What program did you create your intro and what editor do you use to edit footage? Thank You

Thanks for the video. Very helpful! Three questions: 1) In listening to the audio on yours and a couple of other reviews it sounded like there was a couple brief instances of scratchy audio. In another side by side comparison with the regular v50 pro I didn't hear the same under the same conditions. Have you noticed any difference in the audio? 2) I use my action cameras on the water but it sounds like I can't change the settings in the case with just the buttons. Are their other options besides the app to change settings on the water without my phone? 3) Is the remote waterproof? Thanks again!

Just a heads up for anyone who owns this camera or is buying one. The external microphone for the V50X does NOT work on this camera. When you buy the camera on Amazon the V50X may be suggested, but it doesn't work. V50 Pro cameras have a USB mini-B port for the mic. The V50X has a USB micro-B port instead. Also, according to Akaso customer service, V1 cameras do not support the external mic, despite Akaso's website saying the V50 Pro SE supports it, and also state the firmware cannot be updated to V5, which is needed for mic support.

Great review. I ride Enduro dirt bikes on single tracks in the jungles of Thailand, theres a lot of sharp up/down bumps like log crossing and large rocky sections and a lot of sharp left/right turns, and of course there are vivid colors with detail in lush jungle. The highest priority for me is image stabilisation so its enjoyable to watch, followed by detail and color. Which would do better, the Pro or Pro SE? Or should I look at the Brave 6?

the Pro SE has 4K/60, so if that is important, get that (but the IS doesnt work in that setting so not that big a deal for me). The new Brave 6 Plus has a new external mic (USB-C) which works surprisingly well. So if you are looking at getting an action cam that can use a mic then id look at the Brave 6 Plus. The V50 Pro and SE both can use external mics, but they dont sound near as good as the mic on the Brave 6 Plus. I have a few videos that test the Brave 6 Plus on a motorcycle. Take a watch!

Great review. I do have this camera. One thing that bothers me with all Akaso is with all the accessories that they give you, they do not give the most common one is a car window suction cup for a "drive cam"...after all isn't what this camera is mostly used for ???

actually probably not and a car mount would need to be very well made and those are usually not very cheap. These are probably most used for things like skiing, snowboarding, skateboarding, swimming, motorcycles etc. Primarily that are attached to the person.

4k30 is cropped pretty good with EIS and wobbles at the edges, the 1080p60 and 30 wobbles around the edges and a bit jerky.

Hello, I have this camera, and I have observed something that I do not like, and that I also see in your video. This is the light effect that makes a rainbow appear in the middle of the image plane when the sun hits the side at different heights. When I see many videos of routes and landscapes recorded with action cameras on KZbin, I think I've never seen that kind of effect, I can see other reflections of the sun but they don't produce that marked and recurring rainbow. That is why I think that what happens with the akaso is not normal. Could it be because the lens has no protection and sticks out? what do you think? Does it happen with the rest of the cameras akaso? Thanks a lot!

Is your computer fast enough to process 4K video? 4K needs a fairly fast machine, plus the HD has to be quick. Usually an SSD is needed.

@@gregtoope I think so yes, I have a Samsung laptop with i7 and an SSD drive, it's not 4K screen but don't thank that's the issue, I even tried to save the file as MP4 instead of MOV but that made it even worse!

Thanks for the great review. I bought the V50 Pro SE but my videos taken in 4K 30fps with EIS turned on look rather shaky compared to your videos. This is with the camera mounted on my bicycle or on my helmet during my bike rides or chest mounted during my walks. I had the following settings: Scene Mode - Manual, Codec - H.265, Power Frequency - 60Hz. Can you please tell me if changing any of these settings will make the EIS function better or maybe I just have a faulty camera? Thank you.

Would have been nice if it was 4k 60 fps and able to use image stability. What's the point of shooting high resolution if its bouncing all over the place the v50 pro is the better buy.

Well yes and no. Bonus of 60fps is the ability to slow down the footage. Even without EIS if you slow the footage down it can also help smooth it out. And if you want some slomo abilities then it’s a worthwhile feature. But definitely not needed for everyone

@@gauravexplores2401 I'm actually hoping that its a firmware issue. I always shoot in 4k and there is no issue at that resolution. But I have just sent Akaso an email in hopes that they can send me links to all the current firmware files. Hopefully, I hear back from them soon.

@@gregtoope 4K is an issue with me. Don't have anything to edit 4K. That's why I stick to 1080. Plus the file size gets so unmanageable as I handle everything from phone. I just hope its sortable with the firmware. Mine is still unopened can return it...is there any other option I can look upto with good external audio?

I would personally recommend you to go with V50 pro. Its 1080 60 fps is good. While in SE version its unusable. If you just want to shoot 4k then se would be ok for you.

I have the SE and to upload pictures and videos to my computer I must remove the SD card and plug it in the computer. It will not recognize if I plug the camera into the computer via USB. Am I doing something wrong? I did have the older camera v7000 and all I did was plug it to computer via USB and it was recognized.

all, be for warned...this camera can not be charged from the camera, It has no internal charger. You must take the battery out all the time and use the external charger. Which means you cant plug it into the car for a car cam

The SE is currently the camera that I'm using. So at this point, it's my favourite.

for external microphone, do I need a specific cable or a battery powered microphone? I tried with a lavalier microphone USB (no battery powered) linked by usb to mini usb data cable and it doesn't work.

You need the actual akaso mic.

@@gregtoope I purchased the original external microphone, it's not bad, but I had to build an adapter in order to connect a non-original external microphone.

@@gregtoope It is very easy built it, ther's only one problem, internal mic isn't exluded, even with the original external mic. Can you tell me if the microphone isn't exluded also for you? Have you ever notice if the file video that you had recorder with the external microphone has a STEREO track audio (R with lavalier and L with internal mic)? I can't post here an image of the scheme. If you want I can send you the image on Instagram.

@@Domine86 yeah the camera records the external on the one track and the internal on the other track. Not a huge deal for me as I can mute the one track and replicate the other to get the external on both tracks.

i was trying to use my v50 pro se as a webcam, it connects easily, BUT! with the normal fisheye, even with narrow angle, it looks so curved. the distortion correction option gets the lines streight, but makes my head look like a pin, anyone managed to resolve that?

Holding press for three seconds then it lights up. Then be sure the feature is on at the camera side and then the remote flashing will become solid when connected.

I have the Akaso V50 Pro SE. I use a resolution of 2.7k 30 fps. My memory card is a San Disk Ultra 128 GB micro SDXC Class 10, U1. It will only record in 9 minute clips. So after 9 minutes it beeps and starts to record another clip and so on until I decide to stop. I have the file length to unlimited. Is this correct?

not sure, but if lots of cameras will break the files apart once they hit 4 gigs as that is a limitation of some SD cards file format limitations. Look at the file sizes to see if they are in and around 4 gigs.

You're right. 4 gigs seem to be the limit. I did work out that file sizes correspond to resolution. So lower resolution of 720 x 30 fps - 45 minutes. 4 k x 60 fps - 9 minutes. If you turn off EIS you get longer. Incidentally there seems to be no difference between class UI and U3 as far as resolution and times are concerned. So I'm not sure what advantages there are between the 2 cards except the transfer rate. I'm just starting out with these so I think I'll stick to 2.7K x 30 fps with EIS on. I'll need to learn hoe to video edit in order to join the files together.

I dont have any sync issues.. The only time ive experienced sync issues is when my sd card isnt fast enough. I use good fast cards so maybe thats why.

yeah think it was off on the 1080p/30 and 720p/30. The 1080p60 has a really strange jello effect with EIS on. But very nice in 4K and 2.7k

4K 60? You may as well film bouncing on a trampoline! LOL. 4K 30 EIS looks pretty cool! 2.7K The detail of the leaves on the trees your passing, (to me), looks a little odd? Though the car colours look natural, and sharp. 1080 - 60? What on earth is happening to everything around you!? Everything is waveing like water in a fish tank!? 1080 P 30 EIS lost. Everything is bouncing around! 720 is rocky. Back to 4K, and EIS is stable, for me, I'm unsure about this camera now.
