Would there still be a benefit to using an external mic if it was mounted next to the camera instead on your body? Good to acceptable audio is as if not more important for vlogging and was considering the v50pro with mic vs a newer GoPro plus adapter plus mic.

I finally received and tried the Akaso (and only Akaso works) external microphone and it works well and the audio is good. But you need to have the newest firmware installed on your V50 PRO as mentioned by Greg . As he said, I also verified the fact that the internal mic doesn't shut off and records on one of the right or left stereo channel (didn't remember) and the external on the other channel so you will have the switch off the internal mic in your editing software and dual mono your external mic channel.

Yes I did and ive reached out to Akaso and they say that their mic is required with any of their cameras that support external mics.

I am using the Akaso V50x and the audio is... just terrible, it's so muffled EVEN with the external mic. I think my one is a dud. Seems like with Akaso cameras you have a fair chance of receiving a bad one, which is a shame. Love the video, really enjoy your down to earth personality. Much respect from me, subbed 👍

Thanks for the comment. I've had good luck with Akaso cameras, but did have one dud V50 pro. Other than that all have been good. But could very well be a bad camera. Let us know what happens.

Got this today for my V50 PRO. I make some small motorcycle videos ! The mic had a sturdy cable and physically looked to be in good quality. When connected, it worked well but the problem with the camera is that it records both the internal and external microphone in stereo mode as left and right channels respectively. So either disable and delete the left channel and use the right channel as mono or duplicate it to get stereo again. The audio quality is so much better than the internal mic, but it is pricey for what it is. There are mics at half the price with the same quality (atleast in India) but none of the other mics work with the camera. Go for this specific mic for the V50 PRO. This WILL NOT work on the V50 Elite or V50X or any other AKASO camera for that fact. Hope it helps :) Stay safe guys!

The new version Elite does'nt have the option for and external mic at all - I wonder why Akaso Engeeners don't make things more accurate . External mic is more important than video quality by now .

Tony Zecchinelli yea and no. Really all depends on what you’re using it for. I definitely like having the mic. But video quality and FPS are just as important. Depending on what you are shooting and the reason behind the camera purchase. V50 Pro gives you some mic support and the Elite gives you more video options. I agree that I would like to see them release a camera with both. Hopefully we get a Pro Elite version 😁!

thanks for your review on this and the V50 Pro. I'll primarily be using this as a helmet cam while on my motorcycle so I was thinking the external mic would help cut down on wind noise. Unfortunately the external mic is no longer available on Amazon. Did you ever get another mic adapter to work? Do you think the V50 Pro's internal mic would be sufficient if chin mounted to a helmet? B K I tried multiple mics with the adapter and could never get one to work outside of the AKASO mic. In regards to using it with a motorcycle my guess is that the wind noise would be crazy. I’m gonna test mine with the mic as soon as the snow melts and I can bring the bike out.

@@gregtoope that's great thanks for the update. i noticed you had lots of snow! i'm waiting for some of the salt to wash away myself. i've read that the V50 Pro doesn't record well in it's case anyway so i'm considering it anyway. I've also seen a lot of good reviews on the Sena Prism Tube as it has an external mic. i like the idea of the Akaso for other uses but for the bike it seems the Sena may be the better option. If I’m not mainly concerned with listening to myself jabber on and on I’ll take the internal mic so I can pick up more of the sound in the environment. They have a nice clean condenser mic sound. About on par with any normal Sony Mic you might hear

I'm just wondering. You tried with some third-party (i.e. not Akaso) microphones and they didn't work. Then you tried with Akaso and it didn't work. You later discovered that it was your camera. The new camera did work with Akaso's mic. Did you go back and try the third party ones? Maybe the problem with them was also the camera.

Those with good speakers or headphones will hear a low frequency hum on the first external mic test at 100% volume. Much better at 60%, and I wonder if 50% would be even cleaner. A quick question, can the wind noise setting in the camera be used for both microphones? I don't own the camera or the mic as I am researching first to get a general feel for something close to a Go Pro for the price neighborhood of this camera. Would you recommend both mic and camera for these prices? Thanks.

Mark Young - Outside The Box as far as I can tell there is only one setting for mic sensitivity and there is a wind noise setting as well. But it is not specific to the mic. One setting for both. I do like the external mic setup and would recommend it. The only thing I wish was available was the ability to have an auto gain that would set the mic level for you. Other than that it’s a great setup. Really good for the price!

I like the way you test the stuff!. in my opinion it does not worth to have an external Mic unless you can use adapter to have a better Mic but it does not work.

well for those of us that wear action cams during things like motorcycle riding an external mic is super important as the bike and wind produce way to much sound. So being able to put a mic in your helmet is super useful.

Thanks Mahn great video but I do have one doubt. I have brought Akaso V50 pro but I am facing one problem while recording on 4k, it starts a new video after every 8-9 mins. It does take a long video even though I have set it to unlimited recording time.

could be a card format issue. If the card is formatted to FAT it will have file size limits of 4 gigs. So once the card hits that it may automatically make a new file. Try seeing if you format the card to EXFAT format if that helps. Not 100% sure if it will or even if the format is supported. but give it a try.

Barry Cooper I mostly use Samsung cards as they have a pretty consistent speed and have no problems with 4K. Not sure about the 128gig at this point as I usually only shoot with 32 and 64gig cards.

I think the external mic sounded cleaner, esp outside, but not that much better, overall. I'm still hoping to see an Akaso-type action cam that has a real, standard, stereo mic input that can accept shotgun & lav mics. Other than that, the Akaso V50 Pro looks like a great little camera.

I actually thought the internal mic sounded way better on your first walk outside in your original V50 Pro unboxing video. It sounded much clearer to me than the external mic as well as the internal mic in this 2nd video. I am so disappointed in the new external mic quality which, I was really looking forward to buying as I also own a V50 Pro Native. I'm surprised that you didn't re-test your other mics with the cable attachment now that you have a working Mic Input. Please post here when you try it if the other mics work and exactly which cable I need to buy. Thanks. BTW...Great video and audio quality from your home system.

Larry Silver we are gonna do another test possibly this weekend where we retest the other mics, now that we have a working camera. but I have my doubts as AKASO says that this mic is specific for the V50 Pro. There must be something in the connector. But unsure. I do feel that the internal mic is pretty good but the external mic is definitely better in my opinion as you get a much cleaner sound to play with later in your editor. Plus almost zero wind noise. Great question, but sadly I do not know the answer. My guess is that they have a specific pin configuration for their camera. But maybe someone else will read this and answer for you that has more knowledge on this question.

No, the V50X uses a micro USB interface, you will need to order the Akaso mic specifically designed for the V50X. The V50X mic also works well with the Dragon Touch Vista5.

Bought the Akaso V50 Pro SE and a Akaso microphone for V50 Pro and SE models on Amazon. Works like a charm. Microphone was roughly $10 extra. Bargain.

@@gazitanvirhd : It was about 3 years ago and i bought it from Amazon and later the mic. However i see the mic is available from AliExpress for a good price. Also keep in mind the various Akaso cameras take mic's with different connectors. So make sure it is the V50 PRO SE mic, you order.

I'm wondering if we might be able to DIY a better mic. I'm considering buying the mic, cutting it off and soldering a 3.5mm jack that will accept other mics. It's only $10...might be worth a try.

Thanks for the review..I just recieved a gimbal for my V50 Pro and how it sits, the internal mic is against the motor. So I was concerned my audio would be muffled...thinking this External will solve the problem. Just ordered...thanks again

Along Shahriz there shouldn’t be any difference in the same condition. I’m using both cameras when shooting out doors and there isn’t any noticeable difference when using in the same light.

The akaso camera is good but the external mic is static

Yes, definitely does have some static, especially at low speeds when it is quiet out. Once the external sound increases the mic seems to do better. We will also be testing the New Akaso Brave 6 Plus on the motorcycle with its new mic. We should receive the mic hopefully in the next week or so. Looking forward to seeing if the new Akaso cam and mic perform better.

have the AKASO mic and have tested it. Seems to work. Will be taking it out on the motorcycle soon. I’ll put a video up as soon as that test is complete.

@Cruisn Canada I received the Akaso mic today and immediately tried it out. Set the mic to 60, turned the mic on in the settings, and it works like a charm. It even disabled the camera mic. Not sure if it matters, but I purchased the SE version with firmware being TJT03152019_V1. Well, at least that is what digits are shown under System Info.

Cruisn Canada i like the video quality and its cheap compare to go pro But i think if i will not be using the microphone external ,i can play it during editing video,i will try to increase the volume on editing to make the voice volume up. So its ok now,just the microphone issues coz it only work for akaso mic only

As a said many times before, an action camera without microphone input is just trash. Action cameras has become really important for youtubers and the input for an external microphone is necessary to plug any external microphone in order to catch a better sound quality. Even expensive action cameras has that lack.

Axel external mic support is definitely important for some (including myself). But out of all the people that I know that use an action camera, mic support means nothing. If it’s important, get an action camera that has this support. If it isn’t then save some money.

I understand what you mean, but there's very few action cameras with that feature, some of them are pretty bad in video quality plus poor sound, unless you are recording under water the mic input is necesary due the mic of the action cameras are pretty bad, even the Go Pro has a poor sound recording, is not about money, it's about features and the lack of them even when are xtreamlly imortant .... Any brand that understand that fact and includes mic onput feature will break the market, especially the top Brands.

It seems to me that with ANY action camera, if you want good audio, you should also buy a separate audio recorder like one of the Zoom external recorders for $150-250 US (I think). Otherwise prepare to spend $500 or more for a genuine DSLR or video camera. Or...do what Hollywood does and just use the camera audio as a sample, and re-record the audio at home on a good piece of gear (what they call ADR, Automatic Dialog Replacement). I think it's hopeless that Akaso will upgrade audio on these, even if we go out and buy these lousy external mikes. (Perhaps a hacker can find a way to input audio through the USB with an adapter cable, so you can use your own mike.) Okay, Akaso, prove me wrong. I'm waiting...

I think the external mic sounds muffled. Internal mic is much better. Hated those video adds throughout the video so I probably won't be watching many of your videos. Like your style otherwise. Good luck.
