The Chief was 100% correct. According to the customary Law and Local Courts Act Chapter 7.05 section 20(2) a legal practitioner is not allowed to represent clients in such a court. furthermore according to section 20, the proceedings should be as simple and informal as possible.

section 69(4) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment 20 of 2013 provides that every person has a right, at their own expense, to choose and be represented by a legal practitioner before any court, tribunal or forum. Administration of justice is in the hands of chief who is not only disrespectful but also lack an enlightened legal mind. I doubt if that person referred as a lawyer is a real lawyer

The Chief's action exposed his lack of knowledge of basic rights enshrined in the Constitution of Zimbabwe. Dismissing the accused and his lawyer was a gross violation of Section 69 (4) and section 70 (d) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe.
