#1 reason we have been successful on our homestead is because of our rescue guardian dog Cherokee. He has done an amazing job protecting everything here... sometimes I think he is trying to repay us for saving him. Willow will be awesome! Can't wait to see more of her story. God Bless!

When I started with LGD 25 years ago all of the info available stated not to bond or be affectionate with these dogs. I got 2 females 1 of which bonded with me when I went to the breeder They were amazing assisting with dairy goat births and all of the goat needs. They were 1/2 Akbash and 1/2 Maremma. I never could have had my homestead as a single woman without them.

we were fortunate to adopt a 11 year old Akbash x Lab who had a pretty rough earlier life running wild. now he is snoring on the rug by the woodstove. He is in good health with a couple of small fat lumps on his belly, and not a whole lot of teeth. Full credit to the BC SPCA for treating him before adoption. My question is, how many years can we be blessed with "Comrade"? He is the most handsome dog in the whole world.

ITA with adopting a great dog in need of a home. Our girl was a stray mutt picked up animal control, estimated her to be 5-8 months old. She's a wonderful dog. Still going strong! Oprah did a show the 2000's with advocates for adopting homeless pets. If you want a specific breed, you can adopt from a rescue. I really like this video explaining how they went with adopting Willow. Blue likes having the company.....spoiler alert for the next video!!!!

Great story... we also had been looking for a dog to purchase for about 6 months. However, 13 days ago, a friend of ours posted on fakebook that she had found a small puppy in a box abandoned on the side of the road. She could not keep because of her other dogs, so we adopted it. He looks to be a Beagle-mix "brown dog" and his name is now Wrigley. We love him so much and are so happy that Wrigley found us. :)

I own herding breeds. Rescue is full of Australian Shepherds because people don’t realize how much energy and training is required. Shiloh my current rescue is a dangerous dog in the wrong situation. My situation where I have no kids or grandchildren plus is willing to keep his mind busy. He is delightful 99% of the time. The other 1% he is counter surfing or resource guarding. Aussies have guardian instinct, but nothing like your dogs. Good luck with Willow!

Thank you for addressing the affection aspect of LGD. I have seen that too from old timers. Unfortunately abuse often comes with that method to establish dominance and fear of man so they will bark whenever one approaches. I know you have contact with people that train their LGD's. I'd love to see you do a video on proper, humane training methods of LGD's. I think you'd do a good job with it.

The Grass-fed Homestead >>> Greetings! I am new to your channel and just recently viewed your video on Blue's adoption and I just wanted to say that you have found a very unique, nice and noble breed of dog to fall in love with. Sadly these dogs even in their "home country", along with their cousin, the "Sivas Kangal" (dog) are not necessarily treated particularly well, but I am sure that you will. I must say that from the video of picking up Blue from the so-called breeder, I, for some reason never warmed to the guy and found something about him highly suspect and off-putting. In either case, I am happy that Blue is in your hands; I trust you far more than that individual could ever be trusted. Poor Blue had to endure a very difficult trauma that he should have been spared from by his previous owner, I am glad that you have broken him out his depression. The Akbash, Akbaş, rather are a very noble and proud breed of dog and the Blue and Willow pair are very lucky to have your guardianship. May you all have many many happy and productive years together; bless you for taking them in I am sure that they will forever be grateful for your kindness and care.
