This was officially my worst day at UPS. Ending the week like this was not fun, especially full-time.

I appreciate these videos man. I been working here as a loader/unloader/sweeper for a year. Started in peak season as a new hire. They trained me at such a fast pace because of how much they had to deal with in the busy season. I can tell you that most full timers in management and supervisors only care about numbers and will pump your head up to make you a ego maniac just to work faster. Unloading is really bad on shoulders and neck and they expect you to face the tear at all times which means you twist alot and can really mess yourself up. Loading isn't as hard for me personally, just the stress of irregular packages and jam breaking all the time and getting buried inside a trailer until you or someone else digs you out. I peaked at 600 boxes a hour (which includes irregs) and after that I had no choice but to slow down. Started understanding all the games they play and was having alot of pain from the tendons in my feet and hands, to hip pain, back pain and neck pain. I can handle a lot of pain so I just ignored it and didn't report it because without a year or more seniority they're likely to fire you or make you seem like the bad guy. Now I'm more able to pace myself and tell people to fuck off. Personally I like sweeping better because you can clear a cart of irregs pretty easily with leverage and have more breathing room to move around and help others who are having a hard time. But keep up with these videos. I'd love to hear more from a sorters perspective. I've always wanted to try it out.

Good job working as a loader! From what my coworkers have told me, loading is definitely the toughest job so 600 PPH is insanely good. Are you part of a union for working at UPS? It should protect you from getting fired/laid off due to an injury on the job. Sorting on the other hand is more of a mental struggle. A lot of the packages that go to Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee and Delaware sometimes go to a different location. We're supposed to read the fine print in tiny 10 font to determine where to ship some of those packages. The worst is when there's a whole truck full of the weird sorts. If we miss-sort, we have to deal with it in overtime so it's a lose-lose situation.

hey, last tip. work as SAFELY as you can. when they say work faster (which your supervisors are going to do). just tell them im working as safely as i can. ups puts a huge standard on safety so they can make sure that they dont get sued.
@AkemiLife7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I'll let the supes and boss know whenever it happens again. It's not worth getting hurt here.
@twisted__z4877 жыл бұрын
thegamerfrominside but there are times when sometimes you can't always rely on safety if you are getting swarmed with packages. I work as a loader and I can't use the load stand .every time cause I keep getting packages. Sometimes you gotta bypass the safety. I've been working at ups for 7 months.although safety is the priority,it is also a priority to make sure the trucks arrive on time to the next facility.

@sunnymcd12144 жыл бұрын
I didn't even get training. I watched a hour of vids and I got done and bam was on the truck first day. I also had to sort and all that. Than I got sent home. 2nd day I was right back on the trucks and than sorted. After that I had to stay and went in main building. I just stood there not knowing WTF to do. They give you no instructions or not even a schedule. I always gotta ask when they want me in and what to do after trucks are gone. It's stupid and they get upset when you stand there like bruh I have nothing telling me what to do. I got 0 training. It's my 2nd day. Can't wait for the dumb fucking 3rd day

The first time I unloaded a box of crickets I thought I was hallucinating, because I could here them before I saw the box. It was so weird and so cool at the same time. They're also kinda smelly. A co worker told me that one time a box fell, it broke open and a bunch of small frozen pigs fell out. wtf??? We were guessing it was for a school for dissecting or something.

Been there 12 years...and someone pulled that cricket thing in me too...shoved it in my face with no warning...I jumped too...hahahaha. Yep, fast-paced hard labor job ...for sure. Plus managers volume (of work done) ...over safety..it's a shame, but true. Appreciate your videos...thanks for making them and sharing. I'd comment more...but .... hahahha..gotta get ready for work.

This job reminds me of one of those slave ships with the drummer guy and the oars. I wouldn't do it for a GD CENT under $20/hour, if I did it at all.
@deliverydashcam50027 жыл бұрын
these type of jobs should be incentive/comminsion pay and not hourly to give you incentive to work faster. the more you unload/the more you scan. you get more money.
@AkemiLife7 жыл бұрын
I can partially agree! However the scanners don't work half of the time since the labels on the packages are often faded/damaged/laminated. Plus personally I might be turned off by a newer worker coming in and making more money because they can handle heavy packages quicker.
@twisted__z4877 жыл бұрын
Delivery Dashcam they do kinda give extra pay depending how well you do. It's called skills pay.. if a full time supervisor sees you been consistently working ur ass off, they will give $1 extra
@atenakehnaton39657 жыл бұрын
It's cheaper to make it hourly and to find the "right" employees. This is a huge part of the turn over rate at UPS. UPS pay is going way down. People keep acting like the company isn't changing, who have been there 30 years, but they're way out of touch because they're about to retire.
@dennypluto40285 жыл бұрын
Aten Akehnaton Ups wants the turnover that's why they cut the pay in half in1980 we used to make 5× min.wage.I made $16.25 hr.30 yrs.ago

Yeah it definitely happens at UPS. The best thing you can do is just adapt to it and try to keep your head leveled. If you let them get to you then it may affect your working conditions. Work safely and work at your best pace.

unfortunately this is the way UPS opperates. Get used to it and ingnore the bitching and harping from supervision. I spent twenty years with UPS. It's a tough job but it provides a good living in the long run. Good luck
