There are certain songs that signal a shift in the sound of what came before. "Jump" was that for 1992. Away from the New Jack Swing sound that dominated the late 80s & the first few years of 90s RnB & Hip Hop landscape. This was a little more streamlined; still clearly Hip Hop, but its Jackson 5 sample appealed to more Pop sensibilities. That, plus a fun verb that let you participate in a call & response kind of way made it infectious
