AKheon is a treasure to the God of War series. He has been changing the way speedrunners, challenge runners, and even casuals understand and play the series for over a decade. That is quite remarkable. There is nobody better qualified to tell the story of God of War speedrunning than him. To him I say, "Nice."

Excellent video. It's still cool to see how the route can be continued to be push further down with new innovations. Even if i only ran the game for a short duration, it was fun being involved. It's pretty insane to see Castor perform the Pandora's Lobby skip in a full run since it's something i tried but couldn't get the hang of. Maybe in the future we will see sacrifice skip in full runs as well? In any case, there's room for more history past this video, and i hope people will continue to make the game grow by optimizing it :)

This was truly amazing to watch. The history of this game's run is unbelievably interesting, even being a runner you learn a lot of things (specially if you run the game on and off, since watching new runs almost always results in seeing new strats done in runs). Really good job with this.

Pooling community knowledge after working on your own stuff pays dividends. Bit of a pity I had so few to work with in GoW:A (after such a long break). Made some new students with one in particular that surpasses the teacher in ability (Zim). Nice when something can be learned this way (investment paying off).

Both videos u have done on God of War has helped me understanding a bit more about the game I really love to play. At the begining of my way through the game your time and Exe's were thought to be unbeatable, u guys were like gods to me. You don't know how greatly it is to be mentioned in your videos in such a great way, it has only motivated me further to keep on trying to beat my PB, which I'm attempting to, btw. Great video, the narration and pacing were great again, and I hope you do this with Gow2 and Gow3. For some feedback, I think it would be nice if the end talked about the future prospects for the speedrun, like what skips remain to be found/used in the run, what you think will be the best possible time, etc; the ending felt somewhat "rushed".
@AKheon
@AKheon 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the ending went through a rewrite or two... the process was pretty chaotic. I was thinking I might still do a bonus video which addresses any loose ends, and questions like this might be useful to look at, although they're not strictly related to the "history" of GoW runs.

Finally got around to watching the whole video, really good job. Entertaining, informative and with good humor. I hadn't realized just *how* popular the series become with Brazilian gamers, it explains why Brazil is the country my channel is most popular with, considering how many GoW glitch videos I have. Had no idea there was a bit of conflict that had occurred. Also, I'd never heard of most of these runners, should probably watch some of these runs. The last God of War-series speedrun I watched were the ones that you did, so yeah, I've been out of the loop. Think that you'll do a similar video for GoWII?

I feel like I didn't get around to properly commenting on the first part (only the early preview). Still have to do that before watching this one. TUGOWU will only help you so much with the history of the subject matter proposed. Much of it is lost to time through ProBoards, GS/GFAQs, gow3forums, etc. having deletions (same here on YT). Sifting through various run coverages to learn who knew what and when and the various highlights seems like too great a task, frankly. Less so if taking things one game at a time (though there are eventually cases of people coming back to titles after others release **then there would be disputes about people doing that before that time that were reported in unknown locations or not at all, which is less likely with speedrunning I'd dare venture to say**).

1:12 >even more swimming Thus the Italian's run. Kratos in a suit becoming the standard for speed. 1:35 >speedrunning changed More and more into a culture I don't care for (as for the activity itself, I wasn't fond to begin with **though I do enjoy the fruits of the labor as entertainment if not sources of inspiration**). 2:35 >cutscenes and such I recall you popping out the disc tray to skip them to a degree, but that never ended up being 'tech' for such work. 2:54 Yes, it was sped up in future entries though I think GoW:A might have slowed it down again. I forget. Each time I see upgrading I think of your antics with reaching a new level to do something (though that might have more been GoWII or something). 3:27 Probably won't know any of these lads. Just paying loose attention to antics here while doing work in other entries. 4:54 Low research and low difficulty. Just trying to go fast. A casual streamer that just enjoys quick completion for its own sake, then? 5:17 At least he used air PR spam. 5:53 Questionable tactics, indeed. No understanding of damage values (and scaling), I imagine. 7:04 So begins the reign of Tyco (NG+ CHAD). Nice for early game. Less meaningful beyond it if working infinite MP as a focus not for skips, but for damage (which wouldn't be able to keep up at all with upgraded tools using the attire on E with RotG). Good to have the two options, certainly. NOTE: Still such a pity not even cheats (would need mods) allow the costume on VH. Just think of the MONSTER collisions.... 7:29 Seems obvious enough. Just weird nobody was using DB before regenerating MP. 9:20 It doubles what is already the case. On Easy, you're doubled. Thus, you're fourfold stronger. With RotG active, double it again (x8). With MAX BoC? That's x4 (more with unique moves for the super state). Pretty absurd. Our air light starter would go from 2 to 4 (E) to 8 (Tyco) to 16 (RotG) to 64 (MAX). Already a single slap hits harder than the reversal done to Deck Hydra (50 or so). Collisions will be lackluster owed to E (though Tyco is glass) even before RotG dunks on them (full comes out to 20 before MAX RotG **x0.3** where it falls to 6). Non-scaling options like grabs and spells fall by the wayside before such might. Collisions scale in the wrong direction for this, too (changes tactics in combat a fair bit before MP regen tempts as best it can). At least this wasn't Ares Armor, eh? That would be super laughable. 10 down to 5 (E) down to 1.25 (costume). Already weaker than N default lvl1 BoC s1 (2). Turn on RotG and then we're looking at 0.375 (half that for knockback types **0.1875**). Another factor with E would be aggro. Things barely act. Not great for taunt provocation, but good if you just want them to kite about. More importantly, RotG drains 25% slower (longer use) while MP costs 25% less (letting you do some skips more easily even with the MP regen bug). It helps that he wasn't just mashing lights. He went for the best dps he had using movement canceled (timing) 's,t'. A slap into quick t1 (slightly slower than raw **slow** t1, but better output). In GoW1, ground Bravery hits harder than any other entry. It is double that of a Plume (6). Just at this point we're talking a 6/6 buffed up to 24/24 (48). Strings and values are different in the RotG state, so you can't just default to 's,t' with it active, but this is just prior to that business, of course. GoW1 being an entry without orb value change, costumes are needed to that end (this one is x4 EXP **letting you effortlessly upgrade though descriptors are flat rather than scaling, so mind that this only pertains to orbs**). NOTE: We really should have a Wulf % using the cheats for the menus to have all the MAX stuff from the start as a more extreme version of NG+. Think later entries allow Urns, Treasures, etc. in that section. 9:32 >terrible Meh. We're only looking at x2 (all things considered) for the things affected. H would be x2.5. VH is x5. Compared to Ares Armor on Easy where you're talking x0.125 (prior to RotG as ever) it is certainly not the best. As alluded to, RotG isn't 'armor' by way of increasing our DEF so much as debuffing ATK for foes. That is how it alters collisions (scaling with that). This applies also to how hurt the family will be, so having RotG active as they take hits means they will be less harmed as if shielded. I wonder if the family could survive being dropped off the cliff on VH like on H (given the way the damage works) had we the lvl2 BoC's RotG (at lvl1). It is only a x.75 modifier at that point, but maybe at full life they could take the fall still? I forget how jacked up they are from it during the H version (x2.5 DMG). Sort of weird how the kill floor acts differently for them. NOTE: Then again, it is rare enemies can just walk over cliffs to kill themselves as they do here. Were it not for that, we could strand them on the floating island that breaks away for easy spawn pool reduction strats. 9:55 Yes, while going in with good RNG is one way, you could just bait the succ and punish that hard on repeat (eliminating RNG altogether). 10:10 Yes, so I'd heard. 10:40 0HP triggered death as before, yes. I think you showed this sort of thing early on. NOTE: A shame not even cheats can afford Athena's Blades during the run (5.0 modifier) and BotG (hugely more powerful than Artemis though not so hot with the hops if kept as in Ares2 **slightly altered moveset with some downsides like air t1 dealing 0DMG**).
@BigVEE

11:10 Yes, Speedy strats into one of your favorite bugs. 11:25 I remember a point triggering the state prior to the Trident would send us flying into the sky. 12:15 Yes, as it counts us grounded. A fine thing, too. Sloped floors aren't so kind to enemies petrified (shatters them instantly). 13:15 >boss fight Amusing. 14:09 Sounds like your territory. 14:50 I do remember this now. 16:05 >multi-lever pull It ascended. 16:47 Not doing the best dps (R1,s), but he did use the sweet spot. 17:50 Don't believe I'd seen this lesser option. 18:13 HA! HA! 19:03 Yes, based on his performance he barely knows how to platform or do battle, but he got the skip stuff down, at least. 19:35 Pretty sure you can one-shot Ares2 like this using fully charged Hades Gift (L1+O). Catching him with it is like with R1,s spam (more about him doing the warp at the start). I wonder which would be faster. 20:00 Who? 21:06 I probably saw some of them (maybe even commented), but I don't recall a thing. 21:43 Yes, a GoW1 exclusive option. Quick t1 out of evasion. Not a thing elsewhere. If you can punish its bites with that rather than a block, you'll be doing better for it. 22:05 Given the low aggro, this would be a piss-off (lots seconds wasted just waiting for an attack let alone nailing the set-up). 22:47 Time to say goodbye to PR? 22:55 The move towards da KWEENs taking over (Artemis and Medusa). 23:04 Never saw it done this way (versus the hard way). 23:24 ...Vaaiti? 24:55 More of your stuff. I remember noticing such a thing for air CoC, but you made tech with it (sort of like the silly fusion of weapons or even break-outs **though I did more in GoWII on that front than I would in GoW1**). 25:41 >enemies spawning just to fall below Funny. 26:40 That what the sudden need for orb dumping was about? 27:11 She must have realized she had a landing platform below and swung to it. Smart girl. Just needed to take Blast's advice. 27:25 Swim dash doesn't harm them in GoW1 (thought it was 10DMG and scaled)? Or maybe you need the Trident for that option. I forget. That why I'm not seeing dives and grabs (not just trying to slow down for the sake of hitting triggers and such)? 27:44 The double hit factored when it normally wouldn't even work for direct blows? Odd. So it shouldn't be just t0, but also t3 that does this (not so much LotF). I forget if Rising Helios has a double hit. It was bugged in GoW1 (often hitting behind us). GoWII fixed it in a side-grade 'buff'. 28:10 >Artemis Flash Jumps Cute. Again, being on E would help make this more doable given cost reduction. If using DB, it wouldn't be a factor (could be on VH). 28:48 >Fuse Jumps To think that silliness from my youth became a thing. Then again, the UBER Jump is another such product of dicking around. 30:47 >bug shows what it would look like with air OS on Artemis It hurts us runners of the weapon deep in our soul to see what could have been. The air heavy is so whatever...it could have just been set to R1 (ideally even able to string from there). Sucks enough with how hard OH access is for the weapon. Zim had to put in work to show off the weapon as Taz and Shin had in the past (for me it was write-ups as ever **ignoring the very early CotG stuff**). 30:55 Suddenly appearing after getting the trident? Maybe it was tied to the thing. 31:05 I feel like we might soon enough be showing the dumb thing with animations stacking into an overflow (no idea what made me want to do that in the first place **looked like Asura like Kratos was going full Tienshinhan**). 31:24 There it is. I'd also found the weirdness with the pool for AI control on the lip/ledge, but that one had no place in this category. 31:59 Yes, exploiting my early find (the attack hitting the stairs triggering here was a weird oversight, indeed). You've got the thrusts though not really canceling it much. Can't speak to the dps difference. 33:12 Little bit of practice goes a long way. 34:38 Armoring rather than negation. 35:05 Yes, because they are set to "wander" (this along with dizzy are states that recognize the heavy input of Artemis for grounded OS activation). 36:04 Modern era, is it? 36:13 The one Ricky spoke of. 36:17 >not a handheld entry Well, a cellphone is worked as such, I suppose. 36:59 >GDQ ... >and to plug their shit Fucking SHILLS. I should have known. 37:25 I'm afraid we just don't jive with the scene (least of all as it is on THAT stage). Least of all the vets I'd influenced so strongly. 37:40 Especially given challenge running was the actual history over community focus. Speedrunning was a side-show. 38:00 Not untrue (as too well demonstrated by Exe, I'd say). 38:14 As a freakshow, sure. Might have been nice to have other categories, too. You take what you can get, eh? 38:35 >dying to LPG >strayed too far and triggered the wrong attack TUGOWU in the audience: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e2i6apRvqbObrKM 38:55 >money for causes I don't trust charities at all. NOTE: Exe is starting to resemble the current leader of Britain. 39:44 Think I hear the name through SpeedMartyr's circles. Not sure why I know either of them, really. 40:05 Had the numbers, eh? An 'influencer' of these times. This when Portuguese became the language of GoW proper? Too bad so few of them know history (and English) well enough to work my field. 40:24 >ESL became a problem Just like with Dragonball. **hohoho** Vegeta? Undefeated against Goku, by the way. 2-0 (now and forever per AT's will). 40:48 >Rag Heard it in passing. Wasn't keeping track of this lot during these times. Would have been having trouble with primary accounts and working alternative boards around this point (even before the hiatus started with Souls and such). 41:02 >camera and no splits BASED. 41:20 With some random calls for what is and is not a glitch along with the categories that exist. No PAIN? No gain. Just NUR? Surely they mean NUR+ (and just don't know the phrasing in the scene). CotG? Where is my Artemis version? 42:34 Ayyy, ol' Ricky Bobby in the spoilers. >Castor Another name I recognize (in passing). 44:00 >this quality Could he be one of MY people?

44:21 >called it t1 They won't know what the fuck you're talking about. You might as well call it Bravery (which they also won't know). For anyone silly enough to be this in, it goes like this: GoW has named strings/specials as 'moves', doesn't name everything and it annoyed me it is just so. I wanted damage values and presenting them with attempts at shapes (for conveyance of the button inputs) didn't fly, so I wanted to dub them in a simple fashion. Things started with named strings where the enders (point of them) got those handles. Great. Not so much for everything along the way. Wouldn't be until a later entry the likes of the heavy starter got dubbed (even then, that was for a different version of it). System is simple enough. Uppercase if held and lower case if not. The first letter corresponds with the button. If part of a chain (dial-a-combo), the number in the sequence designates it (rarely does GoW complicate things, so this suffices). The light string for the BoC (outside GoW:A **slight adjustment**) is 's,s,s,s,s,s' with s1, s2, s3, s4, s5 and s6 (the last being Valor from Valor of Hercules). Light start all the way to light ender. You don't get the middle option until lvl3, but once you have it the heavy string is 't,t,t' with 't1, t2 and t3'. What AKheon denotes as "t1" the heavy starter Bravery (of Hercules). The launcher is held triangle and not a string, thus just "T" (Ascension of whatever it feels like being called in a given entry **as with 'reverse' it varies**). The odd man out is Plume. Where Spirit is t3 (easy enough to feel out), the not-so-super heavy ender strings off of s2, s3 and s4. Not being part of the heavy string while lacking other factors to fret over, it just got saddled with a leftover (t0). NOTE: Definitely put a smile on my face hearing you call it that without explanation (so natural). Audience will definitely have no idea what is being said. 44:40 A deep t3 would be potent, indeed. Arc back was its own hit, but the doubled potency compared to Plume is really something. Sort of doubt it would double hit for that part in this case without turning to the side like Zim did at times. Maybe that can speed things along further? Requires big targets and this might be large enough. 45:40 Ah, neat. No sidlin- 45:48 ... 46:30 Presumably still needing to backtrack across the ropes. 47:10 Bold to attempt here. 47:50 Getting a nod, is he? Guessing no NUR stuff is making it before we're through here. 48:10 >mastery For this narrow focus, sure. 48:50 Oh? 49:02 I don't recall this spell cancel option for rolling. I'd be afraid it would lock to nearby foes. 49:10 No more watching the crusher get tucked away? Swell. 49:23 >it sticks around I just lament that no foes are ever in those areas. 50:00 Platforming background coming into play, is it? 51:35 This without getting on to Pasta Champ. 52:05 Yes, yes. Blind platforming with precision and timing and all that jazz. Just that it has precious little core gameplay for those that wish to see that done well (and fast). Few run a category where such a thing is on display at all. 52:15 >these voices AKheon. Pliss. 53:18 >this cap Two years, right. Time does get away from us faster and faster with age. 53:30 >nice Rather than bring to mind South Park at all (the natural choice), this was my first thought (given my background): kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZzJd2tof5ydjqsm5s 53:35 >final boss I did the secret optional final encounter owed to responding to another commenter in the first part. Still have to make rounds before I'm done here. 56:13 A small thing I didn't know in the past was the sidling option to hide from the crusher. Wish that had been more of a thing. Reminds of Souls a bit. No hole in the crusher to line up with ourselves. Barely make use of the fun little obstacle (should have been in CotG). 57:15 Backroll set-up? 58:48 I'd like to think it will (at least) get its day (if not challenge runs). Best entry, by the way. For a challenge runner at any rate. 58:52>some feedback Does this count? A bit tardy, I admit. What can I say? I prefer to take my time.

@@BigVEE > I recall you popping out the disc tray to skip them to a degree, but that never ended up being 'tech' for such work. The less said about that experiment, the better... > I remember a point triggering the state prior to the Trident would send us flying into the sky. Yeah, it always happens if you swim off the edge of a water surface. I suppose the game tries to find next suitable surface somewhere above, where there isn't any, causing Kratos to endlessly fly upwards. > She must have realized she had a landing platform below and swung to it. Smart girl. I suppose so, considering she's still around before the final encounter with Ares. > Swim dash doesn't harm them in GoW1 (thought it was 10DMG and scaled)? Or maybe you need the Trident for that option. Can't do the swim dash before getting trident, otherwise it might be doable. Perhaps in a NG+ run that uses the cheat code? > called it t1 I mean, it's good terminology. But yeah, I guess in this regard using the term out of nowhere could be seen as an oversight.

Ok hear me guys PLS....I need an answer in one question I always had in this game...while u push the soldier-monster (depending on the game you play) in oder to sacrifice him to Poseidon you can see clearly 3 or 4 circle openings on the walls above the fight with the legioners where you push the victim to be sacrificed....my question IS ...is there anything there? like chests or sth?

I've tried going there while checking out potential out of bounds spots in the area. There really is nothing there except an arched ceiling that prevents you from leaving playable area.

What's the in game time of these records? As if scoring the game using the segmented run timer.
@AKheon
@AKheon 4 жыл бұрын
There's no way to tell the in-game time unless the player saves at the final save point. I saved after my 1:29:47 run, and the in-game time was 58:01, so it's around a 30 minute difference (add or subtract minutes depending on the used route).
