The fact that Junko’s killers got away with that case is actually the one of the highest faults in human history. Some people just do things where they don’t deserve to be called human, yet the law treated them like their lives should be valued.

@@juancarloscuaocastellanos8813 Apparently there's a video going around giving updates on what happened to the killers. most changed their names to live normal lives. But one of the assholes still proudly brags about the incident in social media. He doesn't hide the fact that he's a killer, and acts like that sad adult who peeked in high school. But much more disturbing. Not sure why Japan is allowing this, but apparently that's what's happening. And then one of the mothers of the killers apparently spit on poor Junko's grave blaming JUNKO for her son's life. So... yeah... the jack asses got away with it.

I cannot describe how terrifying it was to hear Aki saying she doesn't want to talk about Junko Furuta for her own safety. The fact that she doesn't feel SAFE with the case because the pieces of human trash are still alive and out there is so heartbreaking.. As someone who lives in one of the world's safest countries, I have so much sympathy for people who don't have it as lucky as me.

In reality, Rie had given a false PIN number, so the criminals were unable to take a penny from Rie's account. The 60,000 yen they stole was cash that Rie had in her possession at the time. Rie gave the criminals a false PIN number of 2960. The number 2960 is a play on Japanese words, and it is said that this number represents her feelings of hatred or curse towards the criminals. 2(ni) 9(ku) 6(mu) 0(wa) 2960(nikumuwa I hate you) It is unclear whether she actually intended to hate or curse the criminals with the false PIN number 2960, or whether 2960 was just a random number she came up with at the time. However, her mother speculated that Rie had often played with words like this when she was alive, so she probably intentionally gave the criminals the false PIN number 2960. She was desperately saving money to buy her mother a house in the future. Her account had a balance of approximately 9 million yen. It is no mean feat for a young woman to save 9 million yen.

It's actually a widely held misconception that Junko rejected him, if you read the court documents they already had a history of assaulting women and she was just a stranger passing by. It was just chance. Adds to the horror even more.

Not only that, there is a lot of wrong information about her. One of the many false rumors is that even though she was on the verge of death, she showed her indomitable spirit and defeated her assailant at mahjong. By the way, I think there is no doubt that Junko did not know about the perpetrators before the incident. However, I don't think it's clear whether the perpetrators didn't know about Junko before the incident. On the day of the incident, Miyano told Ogura over the phone from the hotel, ``I caught the woman I was targeting and had sex with her.'' However, it is not clear from this statement alone when Miyano began targeting Junko. However, given the context, it can also be taken as if Miyano knew about Junko even before the incident occurred. So, this is just my opinion, but I think it's possible that someone among the perpetrators had unilateral knowledge of Junko before the incident.

@@estherramsay445Yes, Junko did not play mahjong with the perpetrators. In the morning of Junko's last day, Miyano, the main culprit in this case, came home after losing about 100,000 yen in a game of mahjong at a gambling parlor. So, the truth of this rumor is that Miyano beat Junko violently to vent his frustration over losing at mahjong. By the way, in my opinion, the stories that the police visited Junko's place of confinement and that the criminal's mother vandalized Junko's grave are just rumors. I don't think there is any source to support these stories.

She gave the culprits a fake PIN number of 2960. Therefore, the criminals were unable to withdraw money from the bank using her bank card. It is speculated that the number 2960 that she sent to the criminals had the meaning of cursing them. 2(ni) 9(ku) 6(mu) 0(wa) ni-ku-mu-wa(憎むはI hate you) It is not clear now whether Rie actually intended to hate or curse the false 2960 PIN number, or whether the four numbers she came up with at that time simply happened to be 2960. . Rie grew up in a single-parent household and desperately saved up money to buy a house for her mother. At that time, Rie had already saved about 7 million yen. I think Rie couldn't allow this precious money to fall into the hands of such scum.

Aki, the whole thing with the R word (and with a lot of other violent acts) is it's about having power over the victim. These three despicable guys probably felt small because they didn't have jobs or steady income, and having someone in their clutches and doing what they wanted emboldened them to power trip and hurt her even more than they had originally planned to. The R act often hurts badly. My case certainly did. That ex got further emboldened to harm me further after R act-ing me. Domestic Violence/Intimate Partner Violence really, really is awful, and that 43% percent stat for, I think you said, break ins resulting in death of a woman, is an awful figure but true. I know I nearly joined the "women killed by their partner" figure, and I have PTSD now. It's horrific to have, but we really need to start treating the problem. And the root of the problem is really, in my opinion, in a lot of these cases: why do these people who seek to harm another want power over another?

Her husband died from acute myeloid leukemia when Rie was one year old. After that, she and her daughter worked together even during difficult times, and the two of them lived together. Daughter Rie wanted to be filial to her mother and was saving money so that she could someday gift her mother a house. At that time, Rie had a balance of 9 million yen in her account. This also suggests that she worked diligently and was frugal during her lifetime. It's frustrating that all the culprits weren't given the death penalty. By the way, Rie had given the criminals a false PIN number of 2960, so they were unable to take a single penny from Rie's account. The sequence of numbers 2960 represents the Japanese sound ni-ku-mu-wa (憎むわI hate you). Therefore, it is said that this number contained her deep hatred and feelings of grudge against the criminals.

@@silkvelvet2616 I completely agree with you. Every country has their glitches. But what goes behind the scenes in Japan is just absurd. If this would be considered a developing country, 3rd world country, etc, that could be a somewhat acceptable excuse. Maybe. But when you bump into a literal `witch hunt` justice system in a suppose-to-be developed country in this day and age, were completely innocent people (many!) just get detained, then sick, and then die, just because someone else wanted money or got jealous (like a stupid high-school student), that's a whole other level of crazy. And if the truth happen to come out that there's been a mistake and it cost someone's life, all the reaction the loved ones, relatives get is 'Oops. That's life.' The mother's words broke me into tears , that is absolutely terrible and I feel so awful for her and her daughter . The mother is such a sweet and strong woman for being able to stand up and fight for her daughter and continue helping others afterwards. I believe in life after death and god I hope from the bottom of my heart for her to be reunited with her daughter in heaven. And that is a very relieving thought to have , for it won't end here and just coming back home hoping to see your beloved one only to be met with not ever being able to meet them ever again , that would be so excruciatingly painful. God rest her soul.

If the killers were that local to me and still abroad. I wouldn't touch the case with this kind of publicity with a 100 ft pole. I got to commend. Especially with how slow the Japanese police are. There has been cases in Japan where the perpetrator literally broke into the victim's house and they didn't steal anything so the police didn't arrest them. It wasn't until that the perpetrator broke in and murdered the fucking victim until the police would even do anything.

One of the biggest issue with death penalty is that it isn't lowering crime rate, especially if culprit have higher chances to hide or do worst crimes is this lower chances of getting death sentence. Especially if there is a risk of sentencing wrong person.

As a side note, Yoshitomo Hori became a naturalized Japanese citizen when he was a child. His father and older brother were yakuza. His brother also committed a crime similar to Yoshitomo. Yoshitomo's brother stole money from a woman's ATM card in 1995. He then murdered the woman, encased her body in concrete, and abandoned it. However, the sentence given to Yoshitomo's older brother was a joke of 15 years in prison. This family is really messed up.

Capital punishment works, because a deceased offender is never a repeat offender. But if people are keenly aware of the possibility they will get it, and can avoid it via confession, it works even better. The one thing that could've made this case worse, is if it went unsolved. "Mercy to the guilty is cruelty to the innocent” - Adam Smith.

Did you know that until a few years ago in Japan, the juvenile law meant that the names and faces of juvenile criminals were not made public? The law has already been revised to deal with violent crimes committed by minors. 「The revised Juvenile Law came into effect on April 1, 2022. With the Civil Code lowering the age of adulthood to 18, the Juvenile Law, which previously treated anyone under the age of 20 as a "juvenile," has also been revised.」
