This was a fascinating video. I can see the appeal, especially for adults in their twenties. One thing that struck me was the fact that the food storage units had no locks on them even though each room had its own unit. I can't imagine living in a country where it's taken for granted no one would steal your food.

I stayed in a share-house when I studied abroad in Tokyo that was fairly similar to this one and it was great. You had your own rooms to allow for some nice privacy if you needed to study, do some work, or just be alone but if you wanted to hang out with some people or play on some game consoles/watch TV, you could always go to the lounge area and usually there was at least a few people there to hang out with, particularly around meal times and on weekends. We weren't allowed to use a hot plate or microwave in our individual rooms but the kitchen, which was also attached to the lounge, was decked out with more than enough appliances like microwaves, rice cookers, and toaster ovens along with multiple sinks and stove-tops. If anyone ever gets the opportunity to stay in a share-house in Japan, I 100% recommend it.

@@2111jade Yeah, nobody (that I know of) really ever had any issues with items going missing from those baskets. Normally people would store either non-perishables or their own cookware/utensils if they'd rather not use the shared ones. As a level 100 introvert (schizophrenic) I would probably never use the kitchen or any areas that have people in them except showers and laundry room, so I'd just end up getting a normal apartment, but I can see this being really cool, the apartment size doesn't matter to me so the only problem would be the social aspects, but if I was short on money I wouldn't complain about anything at all, it's quite cozy.
@mickeymouse126782 жыл бұрын
As someone with a lot of anxiety, this looks like a literal nightmare to me. When I used to live with only a couple of roommates, I could never comfortably leave my room to use the kitchen unless I knew they weren't there. I can't imagine trying to time that in a sharehouse. I'd probably just subsist entirely on canned foods I would store in my room.

I don't know about the rules there, but some places I saw around where I live don't allow you to have portable stoves in your (or don't even allow you to eat in the room...). I guess some places don't have many rules, but some others can be strict.
