I prefer it when we see little of the protagonist's reaction in these games. The protagonist is a self insert after all. When games try to both have a self insert and have the protag be their own character it usually ends up worse at both. Instead, I wish the personality of the protag was determined by our decisions more, rather than being predefined and undefined at the same time.

@@Not-Andy-Here I know what you meant, and I don't have a problem with seeing the rest close up (though it probably couldn't be presented like this video if I want to keep the protag out of frame), hence why I only focused on the protag. And, no, if they have facial reactions without your input then the game is deciding how they react, in those instances, for you. The more the game takes over decisions like that, the less you can self insert your own reaction. Basically I just prefer letting my imagination take over how I'm reacting, for self insert characters. The more the game shows of them the less I feel like the protag is me and is instead a sepparate entity, and when a game tries to have it both ways it ends up making the protag feel *more* hollow to me than committing to either option. If my imagination takes over I make the character feel real to me, if the game takes over the character can be it's own realized person, if it tries both it feels like it's own character that has it's own feelings, but is just extremely simplistic.
