*The Galor and K'Vort are a tale of two ships with a pretty stark role-reversal in a five year span.* Pre-War the K'vort was seen as a pretty good cruiser. Older, with limited use-case, but rugged and tough. And the Galor Type IIs were overmatched against them. But, by the 1st year of the War the roles were reversed. The Galor Type IIIs had become very effective cruisers thanks to their versatility, ruggedness, ease of upgrade leading to the installation of the heavy SWD Lance, while the K'Vorts were seemingly yanked from front-line service in dedicated cruiser squadrons because they were helpless against squadrons of Jem Hadar fighters. They were now relegated to Attack Wing flagships. Thanks to Dominion advances in penetrating cloaking devices, the use of alpha-strike ambush predator doctrine ships like the K'Vort became a lot less useful, while the better 360 degree fires coverage of the Starfleet and Cardassian ships became more valuable.

I have been following this channel for a couple years and our dude the Prince always knows what he is talking about especially when it comes to the Cardassians. He is a walking Memory Alpha. As it turns out there is a Kvort mentioned in one episode. The ship Worf commanded that was destroyed, the Kuraga, when Dax had to find him in the last season was a Kvort. But, CP's point stands: In TNG the Kvort was the standard Klingon cruiser type in numerous episodes. In the Dominion War they re not used as cruisers. They are not shown in any of the big battles.

Badger, you are correct about the Galor Class. _People make the mistake of rating them against the Galaxy Class or Nebula, but that is a mistake. Ships have to be rated in their own weight class and in the context of their fleet doctrine._ *_So in the Border Wars, the Galor Type II could match 90% of Starfleet's vessels, and could out-number the larger ships. Throw into this logistics, fighting on Cardassia's front-door, doctrine, politics and it becomes clear how a larger power can get stalemated by a smaller one. This is why the War went on for over a decade and resulted in a draw._* One cannot rate a destroyer as bad or good based on its performance against a battleship. The Galor Type II, which was the primary Galor during most of the Fed-Cardasssian Border Wars was a match for Excelsiors, Mirandas, Constellations etc. That is to say, it was the peer of the median starship of the era. It did not match an Ambassador, but there were only a few dozen of those compared to 1000 Galors. In war, one does not assess a military based on the handful of its best weapons, but the majority of its weapons. It's like tanks in WWII. Sure, the Germans built the superb Tiger and Tiger II. But they only built 2000 combined. The Soviets and US built 150,000 T-34s and Shermans in that same period. The Sherman was not as good as a Tiger, but it clearly matched the most common German tanks like the Panzer III and IV. And when the Panther showed up, the Shermans were upgraded with a bigger gun to make it more individually competitive and they still had a huge numbers advantage. The Galor Type III is an altogether different thing and both Galor types were way up gunned during the Dominion War to be not only effective medium cruisers, but lethal to even larger ones. *Using the Sherman analogy, the Dominion War Galor Type III is the 1950s Super Sherman with a 105mm gun and added armor.*

It should take two Galor Type IIIs to take an Akira. The Akira is a tough Heavy Cruiser. Only the Keldon could match it 1-on-1. Though, on DS9 we saw a Galor Type III one-shot an Akira.

And the Enterprise yesterday battle the enterprise-d should have did saucer separation and they would have won that battle with ease but I love my K'Vort and Akira classes. Should do those with D class and Valdore warbirds with D'Kora class Marauders and Sovereign and defiant and Vorcha and Brel and Negvahr and Kheldian and Galors and Jem'Hadar fighters and Breen ships vs Borg tactical cube. Re: The Galor's performance in vanilla BC: In vanilla BC you are commanding a Galaxy-class starship. In the instances where we see Galors challenge Galaxies (in both TNG and DS9) they are slapped aside quite easily. It's just a tremendous mismatch in weight and combat capability between those two vessels, and BC vanilla captured that pretty well.

The Phoenix handily whooped a Galor with a couple torpedoes in TNG. I think for the most part people underpower the Galaxy era federation ships and wank the other races. The Dideridex never did anything on screen to make me think it was way for powerful than a galaxy. It was just big.

This is true, but it isn't 100% established the Phoenix destroyed a Galor, but highly likely and likely it was a Galor Type II Heavy Destroyer. No Galor built is a 1-on-1 match for a Nebula. The Galor Type IIIs that were new in the TNG era were much tougher and could take way more punishment (See Way of the Warrior and how many unshielded hits Dukat's cruiser takes).

@@crownprincesebastianjohano7069 yeah but the reason the federation had a rough time with the Cardis wasn't because the Galaxy and her contemperaries couldn't wax them, it's that the federation largely consisted of older ships. Reliants and Excelsiors and Ambassadors. The Galaxy and the Nebula are powerhouses and probably stronger than a Warbird. Because if they weren't, DS9 shows that 90% of the Romulan fleet were Warbirds and the federation would have gotten stomped in 5 minutes if they were as powerful as people wank them.

That and things like the Federation hating casualties is how the Spoonheads survived. People also forget that once the Klingons surprise wore off in their invasion, they too got bogged down completely. The Cardies are not pushovers.

@@janeghudjars3496 I also think there's this weird concept that bigger is stronger. As if powering a smaller ship with an equal powerplant wouldn't make the smaller ship more powerful. The only time the Romulans were shown seriously threatening Picard is when they outnumbered him or when they got some shots in when the Enterprises Shields were down. The idea that a Valdore is weaker than a Dideridex isn't based on anything but size. No feats. No specs. I also think these things way under power the Defiant.

Honestly I think the dismal performance of the Cardassian ships in Bridge Commander was accurate. Starfleet doesn't like war and tries to avoid it, but it doesn't mean that they are worried about losing a war- it took thousands of Dominion capital ships to bring them to any kind of parity. Prior to the Dominion War, consider that we saw a single Nebula class starship easily take out multiple Cardassian ships. Even more telling, the Enterprise provided the prefix code to the Cardassians, allowing them to disable the ship's shields, and even with that the Nebula class was still able to win and showed no signs of damage after the battle. At the beginning of the same episode "The Wounded", a Cardassian ship fired on the Enterprise with no shields up and they took no actual damage or casualties. Then they were able to disable that Galor class with two shots immediately after. Cardassian warships kind of come off as a joke to Starfleet ships of the line. Maybe a Miranda or Excelsior would be a more even opponent against the Galor, but it seems fairly clear a Galor does not represent a threat to a Nebula or Galaxy class vessel at all.

If I were able to design a ship it would be saucer section with a clam shell design around it with warp nacelles on each end with a K'Vort disruptor cannon on each side with ten phaser arrays for 360 degree coverage and two forward photon torpedo scatter fire tubes and two forward quantum torpedo tubes and two aft photon launchers and mines with cloak and primary and secondary shields and ablative armor. Tractor beam and transporters and can carry 2 runabouts and 4 peregrine fighters. Ship would be roughly the same size as a Nebula class vessel. Perfect for me.

What a lot of people seem to get wrong is the difference between the Cardassians and the Federation is their definition of their conflict. For the Cardassians it was a war, full blown where to the Federation it was a border dispute. When thinking about the size differences between territory and avaible manpower, the Federation outstripped the Cardassian Empire about 10 to 1. The Federation didn't consider this a war and didn't commit any real resources to the conflict where the Cardassians committed everything they had. From what we've been told the Federation outmatched the Cardassians in technology but not in number of ships. We know that there existed a vast difference between the technology between the Federation and the Cardassians. The episode the Wounded takes place the same year the armistice happens. We are shown that the Federation can rear the Cardassian transponder codes to tell what class ship they are at farther distances that the Cardassians can. Even without their shields the Phoenix was able to easily destroy a Galor class ship. I mean when you think about it, given the size of the Federation, the amount of fleet yards it possesses and the pool of beings that can join Starfleet you can see that the Cardassians were outnumbered and outgunned if the Federation decided to commit all its resources to fighting them.

The cards were notably behind the federation in terms of technology, in the show. They did a lot of catching up before they were annihilated, but its not unrealistic for a galor class to die by a few torpedoes. They were 50-100 years behind

But we actually see a number of Galors get hit by photons in TNG and DS9 and they are consistently portrayed as being able to take a lot of hits without exploding. One Galor tanks three photons from the Enterprise with no damage. It could be the ship in 'The Wounded' was an older warship or something.

I don't think the Cardassians were 50 years behind but they also just couldn't build as much newer stuff because we saw them have advanced weapons before the Dominion, but not many of them like that dreadnought. Also, speaking of behind the Klingons were also decades behind Starfleet. They are still a threat. The Kvort is an old ship. When it comes to warships tech isn't everything and fully defeating a major power is costly and bloody.

The Fed/Klingon fleet was out tonned there by a large factor. The game considers the K'vort to be destroyers and the Galors to be light cruisers while the Akira I believe is a heavy cruiser classification and the Valdore is listed as a dreadnought. The human factor in the Akira makes the difference though because of being able to constantly utilize all the torpedoes but swapping roles into the Valdore just highlights how outgunned that fleet was. A more fair comparison would have been to replace the Akira with the Dominion War upgraded Galaxy class probably though not the RBG Galaxy because that mod would make mincemeat of that entire enemy fleet in a couple of minutes.

The problem I have with this is that you decided to use two completely different strategies when it was clear from the onset that the goal was to balance both sides and see which one would come out on top. So for the best comparison, you should've either started off by targeting the main ship both times or taken out the smaller ships both times so that the ending scenarios were at least somewhat equal. The end result may have turned out the same but now we just don't know. Considering how well the Akira's shields held up in the first round it's possible that it would've had an even easier time had it simply taken out the two Galors first but it's also possible that it could have gone even worse. Eliminating the variable would've been the way to get around the lingering question.

I think that these Galors are a bit too strong. On screen, the Galor is one of most consistently portrayed ships, its always outmatched. We know that the sensor variant Nebula can wipe the floor with a Cardassian warship even when the Cardassians have the prefix codes, and that with warning a Galaxy Class can take many direct strikes from Cardassian phasers/spiral wave disruptors to the nacelles. We also see that even Federation fighters can cause significant damage

It depends on the Galor. The proper portrayal of the Galor depends on 1) Time of the battle, and 2) Galor variant. The Galor is outmatched by the Nebula and Galaxy because they are outside their weight class. Galors are Heavy Destroyers and Medium Cruisers. Of course they are getting beaten by heavier ships. There actually isn't much of a difference in power between a Galor Type II and a Klingon K'Tinga, and a Type III with a K'Vort. The point of Cardassian doctrine is to produce tons of medium weight ships that are rugged, robust and easily upgradeable. They are match for the majority of their enemy's ships, and in numbers can handle the larger capital ships like the US and Soviets produced tanks in WWII. The Galor is a basically a T-34 or Sherman. Individually no match for a Nebula but two is a risk, and three will take them. There are relatively few Galaxys, Nebulas, Ambassadors and Sovereigns, but tons of Galors. 1000s. A wing of Galor Type IIs destroyed the Nebula Class USS Honshu. But, the Galors have undergone a steady increase in effectiveness over the time we saw them. Dominion War Galor Type IIIs were very effective medium cruisers that punched above their weight because they carried a devastating Lance that could one-shot even cruisers. This was a consistent portrayal on-screen from the start of the War until the end.

I wonder if Starfleet ever constructed a ship which only has torpedoes as weaponry. We know that the Raven only has phaser arrays... Technically, the NX class only used torpedoes in season 1 for a considerable amount of time. A ship with no phasers but with an unlimited amount of torpedoes. Nice idea in my opinion.

Is that the only Akira or have I just not found the better one? I was playing with one yesterday and I feel like it wasn’t as strong a ship as when you’re using it in this video. I have no clue of it’s from the standard game or a download but they one I used is just “Akira” under Federation Ships

The Akira I used in this video was Wiley Coyotes USS Thunderchild. It's apart of the WC mega pack on gamefront 🖖

This battle was in bridge commander remastered, repair isn't an option in this mod sadly. One of the trade offs of better game stability 🖖

Badger, Klingon always stronger than sneaky Romulan scum. Kvorts are not great but. AI should use hit, cloak, hit tactics not slugging matches. Bird of Prey is ambusher not brawler. Maybe Ktinga and Vorchas instead? Can we see Ferengi Fleet massacred by mighty Klingon fleet?

Romulan learn D'DeriASS Warbird is just big turkey. Slow, fat sneak attacks only. So sneaky, honorless patachs copy Bird of Prey, make it bigger with more guns everywhere, and call it Valdore. No honor.

@@JonosonofEndar Although the Galor-class vessels were considerably inferior to the Federation's Galaxy-class starships. Canon sources never imply they got better.
