Akira Nishimura: Heterophony of Two Pianos and Orchestra (1987)

This is somehow exactly what I needed to hear

I came to know Nishimura just recently and I am thrilled how he implements a lot of sounds which are so close to the Persian music. Both in timbre and tonality. Here for example the piano is effectively producing a Santoor sound, and the piece implements many motives based on the Dastgahs (Charhaargah in this case if I'm not mistaken). Nevertheless the piece sounds amazingly original. It's a pity that he passed away

I would describe this piece as disturbing. But in an infectious sort of way. It certainly achieves putting the listener on edge.
