I remember reading segments in video game magazines back in the day making mention of this title. Could have turned out to be a very good or bad game either way. 😅

I've been coming across so many cool projects that were cancelled and it's sad what could've been :(

Looks like very ambitious project that tried to bring entire film onto a single cartridge. Bold but rather doomed approach. Yet it still looks 60-70+ % finished, based on this video, so they could've tried to roll with it really. As for modern tittles - unintentionally Cyberpunk 2077 is best Akira-like game. Night City is dominant and ever present just like Neo-Tokyo was. But Akira had interesting story while CP77 is uh... poorly written.

I felt like that was the most obvious reference to go for, but sometimes that's the best option. You're totally right haha. I still need to finish the new DLC but that story was definitely a mess 😭

Ask jeeves was a deep reference bro. And Id like to see a game similar to GTA, with some drive and hotline miami elements thrown in. Also a splash of devil may cry, where each character has their own combat style. Would of been cooler is Kaneda, used his light gun towards the end of the game, and was a fighting game, with defensive based combat for more realism. Sort of like batman arkham asylum. Also you can tell which version of AKIRA people are familiar with by how they pronounce the names. No offense. but its KHAN ney DAAAA. The funamation blu ray dub, changed the voices from the original anime ocean dub, which is far superior, and more adult, since it had cussing, where funamation, had their balls snipped years ago. Just saying, if I were a fan looking to get into this movie for the first time, Id buy the original dub release, non blu ray. Which I have. Since I cant stand the fucking voices in the funamation dub. They botch the pronunciation of the names, and the iconic voices of tetsUo and Khan NEY DAA, were removed, and they put in some no name actors that didnt at all match the faces of the characters they were voicing. Johnny yong bosch, and the voice actor for tetsuo, which is a veteran in many different roles himself, deserve recognition for bringing these characters to life, in a way that will be remembered forever. If they dont get the OG voice actors back for the new animae akira manga adaptation, I will riot.

You’re a god. I love hearing from people who know their stuff. You seriously just put me on to some knowledge I had no idea about!! When I was younger I watched the dub version a lot but have since stuck to subs for most anime. Didn’t know about the cursing and even pronunciation differences. Really cool bit of info thanks! No offense taken btw, im from the south, got made fun of for my accent as a kid when I moved to Chicago and then tried my best to fix it up. Definitely gonna make sure I hit the names and pronunciations next time. I plan to cover more anime / manga ports.

I keep rereading this comment because it’s that good - I don’t know how I didn’t catch the Drive reference but elements from there would fit PERFECTLY.
