Sorry about Akira, lovely dog with a lovely name. Came across your video,as my Cali started to knuckle over in her hind leg today. She has been walking like Akira, thought it was old age (13), and arthritis. Will keep cooking her chicken and give her all the support she needs.

@@AkiraRules my female is starting to show signs. Maybe a little less than Akira but the signs are there.. how long did it take for her to be fully in a wheel chair from the start. And I see it's been a year in some videos. Is she still alive? Everything I was told is about a year maybe a little more uh until it takes her

@@gutwrench76 The symptoms take about 3-4 months from start to full blown DM. I'm sorry to say that Akira passed away on Oct 19, 2018 due to seizures. I was with her throughout the ordeal so she passed knowing that I was there for her. I'm no expert but I suspect the life expectancy of a dog after full blown DM is about a year so treat each day as their last and take them to their favorite spots before it's too late because their life is too short. It's been almost 3 months but I still get sad thinking about her.

@@Jay_Rule thanks for the reply and I'm sorry to hear that she passes. I have no kids. Just dogs all my life. This is the first time I have ever dealt with a dog with DM. She moves around pretty good still but getting week. Legs wobbly issues with putting her back paws down flat. Legs sliding under her all the time but not falling over yet. What stresses me is and I hate to say this but my life isn't suited for having a dog in a wheel chair. I am afriad that once it gets that bad I will have to put her down. People may think that I am be being heartless for saying that but me and the wife work 10 hrs a day. All my dogs take care of themselves while we are gone. Doggy door to use the bathroom. Food water down all day. I'm dreading it but I know I will have to put her down when she cant walk anymore. Very upsetting

I picked my boy up Christmas day 11 years ago. To the day yesterday he began falling over. I though the mild symptoms I was noticing for a couple of months or more were just him getting old (arthritis etc) i wish I had taken him in sooner. I had never heard of this before and was crushed when reading about it. Sorry for your loss. Pray for Jacks if you will. Thank you.

Just lost my sweet baby Zeus due to this condition it really is sad but he lived a great life. He was 12 years old I believe.

I've had many dogs in my life but never knew this insidious disease existed and affected dogs only. Very heartbreaking to watch a beloved pet live with this condition. You did well looking after her. Are certain dog breeds more prone to developing DM? I've seen pets with wheelchairs but always thought it was caused by accidents, injuries, fights with other animals etc

Thanks. Akira is in doggy heaven now. She passed away in October of 2018. She is pain free now. I still keep this channel active to remember her by. I have tons of video footage that have yet to be released.

My dog has this too :( He’s gonna be 14 it’s so hard to watch :( The only comfort is knowing it doesn’t hurt them ... they say it’s just awful to see it :( I’m sorry your dog has it too :(

I’ve been giving my boxer with DM salmon, coconut and olive oil joint soothers, rich meats like steak and salmon, hoping my Roxie gets better soon. There is no cure for it which is truly heart breaking, and I can’t stand to give my baby a wheelchair and diapers. Please give me tips if your boxer is doing better with the supplements..

Unfortunately there is no cure so the best we can do is make the rest of their life comfortable and happy. There will be lots of accidents and having to clean those up so expect that but keep in mind they can't control it so it's not their fault. I'm trying to train her to use the wheelchair but some days she is stubborn and doesn't want to move in it.

Ahh poor guy my Boston terrier had this problem as well. I got her a wheel chair and it helped. But sadly a couple months ago she passed away from this problem 😔

Sorry for your loss. My dachshund Holli just all of a sudden stopped walking or standing on new year's eve. She was walking earlier that day then seems like with the snap of the finger she stopped walking. If u don't mind me asking how long did your dog have this before the end ?

My boxer Dutch has started doing this but even worse lately and we live upstairs and my husband has to carry him up and try to guide him to get down the very narrow cement stairs. Dutch is 98 pounds and I literally don’t know what to do.
