Even if you can’t afford a professional groom, there’s no excuse for letting a dog get into this condition, especially if you say you love them. Get out your own pair of scissors and give them a trim, long before the hair gets overgrown and matted… and give them a bath regularly. Even if the “at home style” haircut makes the dog look funny, it will grow out and look fine in a few weeks. Their health and happiness is your #1 priority as a dog owner. No excuses.

We found a dog in this condition in our bathroom once. Our daughters found him in the middle of the road when they were going out in the evening, picked him up and brought him home. He was obviously abandoned for a long time and very hungry. He was so sweet and we brought him the next day to the kennels we had helped starting. We already had 9 rescue dogs living in our home as well as 7rescue cats so we could not keep him, but it had a happy ending.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for rescuing this poor baby boy. He needed somebody to give a damn about him and you did. No animal deserves to be abused this way or abandoned. People have the choice whether to bring an animal home or not but the animal has no choice. If you're not going to take care of them with proper food, vet visits, grooming, playtime, attention and love - then do the animal a favor and don't bring it home. Let someone else who sees their value and will love them take them home.

It just breaks my heart to see these poor little dogs in this kind of shape. I have a small dog. I am 64 years old. I can. not afford to take my little one to a groomer. But I have been grooming him myself since. he was a pup. If I get to the point where I can't do it anymore. I will find someone to love him and give him a good home. The dog belongs to an elderly lady that took him in. They are going to take care of him people that know that she needs help with it. She is needing a guardian and somebody near her to be her friend so don’t be so judgmental. Thank you doctor for doing all this for this poor animal and the owner.

It's not a case of being judgemental....it's pointing out the obvious....the elderly lady could've asked for some help for her dog's sad situation years ago.....at the very least she could've brushed her dog's coat.....and perhaps trimmed it's coat before it got mattered....etc...if you have a dog then you have a responsibility to take care of it, no matter you're age...and if you can't look after it then seek out help if you're struggling....
