So many unique designs that I've never seen before! Thanks for sharing and also properly crediting each module's creator :)

I'm Katsumata, one of the creators of the last module, "SWEET LAND" at 15:28. This one is based on the famous Japanese candy game, and there is an actual arcade game of the same name. It was unfinished in day 1 and completed just an hour before the end of the event, so it was only on display for a short time. However many people enjoyed it.

it looks similar to "coin pusher" arcade games here overseas, where a machine is filled a bunch a coins and pushers. you roll your coin into the machine and hope it results in more coins being pushed off the table

Akiyuki's designs, as always, are complex and precise. Hiro's are brutalist and factory-like. Rin's are playful, toylike, easy to understand, and incredibly flashy. Katsumata reminds me of a mad scientist, with elements and balls going anywhere but the obvious as long as it gets them to their goal.

It’s incredible how Japanese GBC is so drastically different from those in America. It’s a beautiful dance of innovation and precision.

The aesthetics and movement gimmicks are so clear, well-expressed, unique and of highest quality, but I am also impressed by hardly any loose balls on the tablecloth compared to other GBC exhibits. I think that is also a mark of masterful engineering.

Could somebody explain to me how Rin's "Acceleration" piece works?! Please :)
@ckbrixes54714 ай бұрын
Hi, I was one of the participants at this JBF GBC collaboration The "Acceleration" module starts with a ball pump, and the balls exit to a 2-wall of trans-clear panels (1x5x6) forming a V-shape, when viewed from the top. The balls roll down slowly down the V-shape, and accelerate after exiting the V-wall. Hope this helps.

It's kinda funny how western GBCs rehash the same ideas over and over to the point you can have a dozen of the same design in a single loop but Japanese GBC builders have far more creativity and a drive to make something new. I wonder just how much of an impact the small size of the Japanese GBC community has, I assume every creator here is in close contact bouncing ideas off each other while also appreciating that every individual has an opportunity to shine, while in the western ones it seems like there are so many people and that they feel like they'll blend in and as a self fulfilling prophecy don't strive to do anything special and blend in. A single feature that is that there are so many cams in Japanese designs. Western designs seem to always want to power everything, while Japanese designs will have mechanisms react. Things like at 5:56 the balls are dropped because of the interaction of the spinning arm and the gate, while others seem to ignore that kind of interaction. With cams it also provides intermittent and complex motion which is far more complicated from a directly powered mechanism, 8:25 is a perfect example of that. They utilise this tool in such an interesting way, I'm bored of western GBCs because they seem to have reached the end of what they can do without cams. The second feature would be a fantastic understanding of linkages, you can get programs to experiment with linkages to find the exact motion you want (they're often using axels in place of some beams to get the *exact* length they want for more options) - combine it with a cam and you can do anything. I loved this so much, the engineering and the creativity are on point. It's exciting that your community is constantly pushing the bounds and showing off fresh ideas. I may have spent most of the video slack jawed in amazement, figuring out what was needed, and those cam gearboxes controlling everything in many of the contraptions are pretty beautiful to watch to see rotation turn into essentially programmed output. I appreciate being able to see this so much, thank you.

i would say we need a east VS west GBC meet up where the best western and the best eastern builders set up two circuits with a poll on what module is the best where the western side creators can only vote on the asian modules and vice versa and also a competition wich of the two set ups transports more balls during this time. also a price fro the best looking module(s) with the western folks rating the eastern ones and vice versa, a price for the best engineering with the same voting system in place and for the most reliable module in each of the contraptions.
