I just got my wireless pro PWM kit, finally had the chance to install it lastnight. I have follow all the step and even check the breaker. When i install it the trolling motor kick on for 1-2 sec and shut off. The wireless remote didnt do anything. but when i hook the trolling motor directly into the battery it work fine. there has to be some kind of shortage in the wireless box. looking forward to send my back and have it check out!

I had a wireless. Never worked more than 10 minutes on the water. Sent it back 3 times all three times failed in the first ten minutes. They kept it up to 6 months one time and they said since the wireless was not working they would send me one out that was wireless but I could plug it in also. When I got it back it was strait wired. I had paid for wireless. Yep you guessed it, about 10 minutes on the water not ever hitting 100% power it Burnt up. This was the first time it had burnt up. Before it had gotten stuck on high in reverse when I was going forward at about 20% power. The other 2 times it just stopped working all together. Telling you my true story. If you want to buy one that is up to you. But don’t be like me and think it’s the best thing since sliced bread. Because it will malfunction on you. Thanks hopefully this helps someone to use their money more wisely.

You are not alone with your complaints. It seems within the last 2 years there was a quality control and customer service problem. They are currently out of business or just dormant. The unit I had and another that I installed still work to this day without any problems.
@43026auto4 жыл бұрын
Aksman my unit was back from like 3-4 years ago. So they must had had some problems then also. They did return emails and called back from my emails at that time. And he would always send me the same board back each time. If it was my business when that problem one came in a new one would have been sent out and I would have found out what went wrong with that one. But the fastest they ever got me mine back was 2 months. I Bowfish off my yak so I run very very slow. You can see the prop turn. So wasn’t like I was even getting it hot. Just sucked. I was very disappointed to say the least. Thanks for you response back.

Aksman, from your expertise, is performance better with the pwm control module, or the controller box you made in your previous videos. The control box that you fabricated is really nice and cheaper to make. In your opinion which would you go with?
@Aksmaniyak5 жыл бұрын
It depends on your budget. Yes, the original control box is easier to make and costs much less. The PWM requires different wiring and is much more expensive. The PWM does have more advantages. It uses less battery current so your battery power will last longer. It also has an infinite amount of speed settings.

Excellent setup you have there. Question that I have is I have the Endura Max and would like to just keep the head in the side of my track and the motor in the back side. Which cable and gauge can I use to connect the cables from the head to the motor? They are too short so I need something in between to connect the two and just don't have an idea which cable type and gauge is needed. I know the battery can be used just a regular electrical cable but not too sure of the other ones. Thanks!

Thanks for your informative videos... what I would like to know is is you have seen any difference in using 10 gauge vs 8 gauge wires ,most people never talk about wires since I understand 10g could be ok for a 30lbs troll motor but once you start getting into the 45`s or 50`s then that can become a issue of resistance and heat ... I got a 55lbs motor and even my fuse and connectors supposed to be for at least 50amps minimum and 8g wire , is that right or can I get away with less? thanks for your advice .
@Aksmaniyak3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Frank. I know many people refer to the Minn Kota wire gauge chart. In my opinion, it uses a huge factor of safety for liability reasons. I have wired numerous trolling motors from 30-55 lbers on kayaks using 10G up to 13 feet with never any problems.

In your minn kota manual there is a chart that tells you the size breaker to use. I bought a resettable circuit breaker. My 30# unit calls for a 50 amp on #10 wire.
@bigalcervantes51185 жыл бұрын
Aksman, your videos are the best, I'm going to add trolling motor to my eagle Talon yak, question with the pwm controller how do you wire the breaker to the controller and battery.
@Aksmaniyak5 жыл бұрын
Thanks again Al. You wire the circuit breaker between the battery power leads and PWM. The PWM then runs to the trolling motor power leads.

I am looking at using the Wireless Trolling Pro for my Kayak. I will be putting a Minn Kota Endura Max 55 LB trolling motor on it. I have in the past with a Motorguide C3 taken the switch out and remounted it by the chair and it worked well. The Minn Kota however, has a molded in switch that doesn't look to be removable. I noticed that you had 2 wires that were not connected and the power ran directly into the motor itself. Are the cables coming from the wireless pro go directly to the wires that go down to the motor? The video was a little unclear as to what they hooked up to. Thanks
@Aksmaniyak5 жыл бұрын
Yes, you don't use the white and yellow wires on the MK. You only use the pos and neg wiring for the WTP.
@edhoule45328 жыл бұрын
Just a quick question which controller did you order because Minn Kota c2 30 recommends a 50 amp breaker but they have several to choose from I believe they start at 30lbs up to 45lbs and does the 50 amp breaker protect both the controller and the motor thank for your great videos
@Aksmaniyak8 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ed. The usual estimate for TM current draw is 1A for every lb of thrust (30lb=30A). However, when using a PWM the current draw is dramatically reduced. I did kayak field testing with the C2 30 lb TM and found that the maximum current draw with the PWM was less than 20A. Minn Kota recommends the 50A circuit breaker based on the stock speed controller. I bought the 40A PWM just to have a bigger factor of safety for the TM. The way the PWM is wired, the circuit breaker will protect it and the TM. I hope this helps.
@josephwhitt47196 жыл бұрын
You pull a lot more than 30a when on full speed and hit weeds or the bottom or from dead stop to full speed starts that’s why they recommended a 50a breaker
@johnrugani98325 жыл бұрын
Hey Aksman, Happy New Year! I have a question, do you know just how far your motor needs to be under the water to prevent cavitation? I'm and told the closer you can get to the water line without cavitation the more efficient your motor will run. I will be running a 40 lb minn kota With the standard prop on a bonafied ss127. I will be shortening the shaft and would like to go as short as possible. This will add in lifting the trolling motor out of the water and give me that nice low profile on top that i am looking for.

Hi, I purchased the PWM and installed it the way you demonstrated and also added a 30amp circuit breaker. After being on the water for a hour, the PWM stop working and it was really hot with a bad smell. I bought a second one and it did the same thing. Just shipped both units back for inspection. Any advice?

Aksman, I am in the middle of a similar instal on my Kayak, but discovered that on the Endura 34 motor which I am using, the black wire coming out of the shaft is much larger than the other 3. This led me to investigate the continuity on the original control switch that was in the head of the motor, and it appears that on my motor speed is controlled by adding power to additonal wires (so that all 4 wires are used in foreward and reverse) and direction is changed by changing polarity. Are you sure your trolling motor uses the yellow and white wires to control direction?
@Aksmaniyak7 жыл бұрын
I was given that information by an electrical engineer that works on the TMs. The max power occurs when the red and black motor wires act as if directly attached to the battery. I assume it has the standard TM switch inside the head as other Minn Kotas? For the PWM install, all you need is the red and black wires and that is why the instructions recommend selecting speed 5 on the shifter. Speed 5 allows maximum current to travel through the internal switch as if it was hooked directly to the battery. Did this answer your question?
@terrykocurek2877 жыл бұрын
Aksman, My motor appears to have the standard Minn Kota switch, but from what I can determine by testing with a multimeter, speed is controlled by sequentially connecting additional wires to the positive (so, the red, yellow, and white wires all must be connected to the positive simultaneously for full speed). So, it would appear to me that if I only use the red wire, the pwn controller would not be able to achieve full speed). I would assume all of the Minn Kotas with the 3 spd reverse/5 spd fwd use the same switch, in which case you are not using your motor's full potential.
@Aksmaniyak7 жыл бұрын
As with most DIY projects, KZbin tutorials are used as a guide to assist those interested in building similar projects. I encourage you to test your theory. I have built several trolling motors with 2 different types/brands of PWMs and each are connected in the same way using only the red+ and black- TM wires. They achieve maximum output with those configurations. The installation method was confirmed by each of the PWM manufacturers.
@mikemccabe15816 жыл бұрын
Yes, agree. although a different brand, I have a basspro inexpensive T30 prowler, and when you check continuity (with a multimeter) at high speed, all three positive wires are connected.

Hi and great video! In your application, why is it necessary to remove TM head to connect to black and red wire? Couldn't you connect to those wires without removing the head?
@Aksmaniyak7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Chris. Yes you could do it that way but the operation would be a little bit different. You would need to keep the speed selector switch at setting 5 to make sure to allow for maximum current flow. But since this project no longer uses the stock speed selector switch in the head, it is a more streamlined design to remove it completely.

So they say to put it on speed 5 formax energy saving. So with yours being removed do you still get the same in energy consumption
@Aksmaniyak5 жыл бұрын
I have only field tested the unit without the head. Putting it on 5 allows for full current flow for the max energy saving and max speed. I have not tested both variations side by side for comparison. Removing the head and original switch could only increase the enregy savings based on my previous testing IMO.

@@Aksmaniyak it's a diehard 1.5 hp

@@BigInjun05 As long as you have the main red and black power wires going down into the shaft you can use a PWM.

@@Aksmaniyak that blue wire wouldn't be like a motor starter would it?
@Aksmaniyak5 жыл бұрын
@@BigInjun05 If it is a standard 12v trolling motor then the only wires that are important are the red/black for a PWM. That is because you don't use the stock switch.

The Controller and the power module . . . . also the trolling motor came with 5 speed and 3 for the reverse how many speed are in that box ?
@Aksmaniyak7 жыл бұрын
The controller and power module come together. The PWM does not have "speeds" like regular trolling motors. The dial allows for infinite speed settings in the forward and reverse directions. It is a great set up. The controller company website is www.wirelesstrollingpro.com and it explains the different options and prices. A Minn Kota 30 lb thrust trolling motor is about $99.

I would like to install the PWM on a WaterSnake 24lbs motor. This motor has 3 wires ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/h4vGfX-BfqeMo6s ) Do you think it will work the same connecting the red and black? Is the the 30amps PWM the one I need of bigger? Thank you in advance for your reply and for your great video!
@Aksmaniyak7 жыл бұрын
Hi Giuseppe, I am not familiar with the wiring in the WaterSnake. I would contact the company and ask them. If you can use a PWM with it, then a 30A unit would be fine.

Thank you Aksman, I will contact the company as you recommend. Have a nice day!

Hello Aksman, I contacted the company and told me I can use the red and black, as you show in your video with the Minn Kota. I ordered the engine yesterday, and I will send you some pictures if I will go ahead with the project. Thanks again for sharing this with us!

What made you go to the variable control vs the first box you made with the 5x3 speed controller?
@Aksmaniyak8 жыл бұрын
The PWM extends battery life and has a smoother (and basically infinite) speed settings.
