Aku Selvatica Gtx Review

My review of the Aku Selvatica Mid Gtx Boots. I have used these boots for six months, for hillwalking and skydiving. They are very comfortable straight out of the box.

And reasonably priced compared to other high-quality hiking or similar boots... Solomons for example are around $200 and they work for me and my foots! :) so i stick with them.

I have some friends using them and they are quite satisfies. I personally use the LOWA ZEPHYR High and i am satisfied. the problem is that they slip a lot in the wet pavement.

I had a pair for two years. The boot is not for a wide foot as you point out. I changed the way the boot was laced. I missed the first side lace loops from the front by threading the lace through the side loop. I then continued lacing them as they came out of the box.

I have worn a pair nearly daily for the last 18 months or so, for emergency services use. The boots are really light, breathe well and seem well constructed. I did have a minor issue with one of the “stud” bits of the sole cracking but a bit of super glue put that right. They are also definitely waterproof. The boots were very comfortable out of the box and didn’t really need any proper break in time, but I did replace the insoles with something more supportive. Overall I have had a great experience with them and would happily buy Aku again.

all the tacticool stuff, hardly anyone does reviews (or maybe I just breeze by them) on shoes/boots... I guess its not the sexy kit for the you tubers but its a critical item or to have the proper footwear! thanks for the review!

Have you ever tried Treksta, with the BOA lace system and hyper grip soles? I'm currently wearing the high leg 10" version. Too old and knackered to tab or run now, but find them great for hunting shooting in the UK.

Yes, bought some in May last year at the shooting show, around £280, replaced my 1990s Danners. Lightweight, feel good, waterproof, fit my wide feet, so much so I could drop to a 9.5. Good support even for a fat old git like me. Wear them 3 to 4 times a week in the field to shoot, various steep and boggy terrain. Lace system is brilliant, easy on easy off and once you're used to it, can vary tension in differant parts

@@Retired-Tom I know the BOA system from cycling shoes. That is a great system. And you get the dials/laces for free from BOA if they fail. Did not know they come with high boots. Micro adjustment is perfect/superior to anything else in terms of comfort. No idea how it holds up in the field/combat.

@@PreparedPathfinder Tom you can Micro adjust these dials. They are great on cycling shoes. Used them for years daily. No idea how they hold up to tough terrain/combat on boots. Free replacement parts for dials/laces. Strong as dyneema. Easy to fix/replace w/ small allen key.

Interesting boot that - light, and the grip on that should be good. If you have wide feet and like light boots, have you tried Salomon Ultra 3 mid GTX? They're really comfy and easy to cover distances; the sole grip is great. I'm also interested to know your thoughts on Lowa Desert Elite boots (if you remember those), I'm sure you've worn them as they were issued for British soldiers in Afghanistan. They're out of production now, but I managed to find an unworn pair. Interesting how they'd perform in multi-day summer hikes in Britain.

I haven’t tried the Salomon Ultra 3 Gtx. Yes, l used the Desert Lowas over in Afghan, decent boots.

I've a pair of the 'civvy' grey Selvatica. In general I find them very good. I have preferences e.g. no hooks for laces. As you know these have a hook at the top of the lacing. Not a deal breaker by any means. I've had no bother with the laces but I use a combination of surgeons knot, fell runner's knot and final double knot 😂 Time will tell how they perform for me but Aku boots are hard to beat, aren't they ?

Once the boots had stretched out in terms of width, have you found they're causing any gip with your feet after you've taken them off? I bought a different brand last year, quality brand, but, not quite the right width for my feet; had a few aches that I'm not sure are from the boots, or just my feet gaining condition. Decent vid, that mic works nicely for the garden reviews compared to the earlier days (ration pack comparison etc).

Yeah they’re fine now to be honest. Roger, l’d never done this sort of thing before so the early vids were a learning curve.

Boots are a very personal thing mate, but l’d say Lowa or Altberg.
