My favorite thing about Reiner is that out of every character in AoT, Reiner is probably the most “human”. While others have some great selfless drive or aspect to them that sets them apart from others, Reiner is the most normal. While others have some grand dream, some distinguishable characteristic, whether it be the superhuman abilities of the Ackermans, the optimism and courage of Armin, the anger, inherent rage, and checkered fate of the Jaegars, the talent and kindness of all the others, Reiner is just a normal person wearing a mask to hide his weakness just trying to find an answer and a reason to his life. But all of his efforts and actions cost him almost everything, so he clings to the little he has and tries so hard to prevent them from slipping away. He’s not some great charismatic figure, he’s not a courageous warrior that would gladly sacrifice himself for the greater good. He’s just a single person trying his best with the hand he’s been dealt. A man who moves forward yet stands still.

So yeah, when we learn of his horrible death, it's natural to feel OUTRAGED and MAD against Bertolt, Annie and Reiner, comrades he trusted and who betrayed him. However, then we learn about life of Eldians in Marley and their own suffering, and we can see how the "Shingeki no Kyojin" world is no longer heroes vs monsters, but humans massacring each other in an endless cycle of hatred and tragedy. Ergo, being Mad at Reiner (and Eren for that matter) is natural, but eventually we should try to understand and forgive these characters, who live in far worse circumstances than us (albeit fictitious).

What reiner's mom said "if only we were marleyans" kinda solidifies how corrupt marley is with convincing eldians living there that their race is pure evil and as if it's a mercy for them to stay alive in marley it's sad stuff. And when you see the ppl in paradis and how kind they are made reiner forget that they're "devil blood" and all.
@mohammedbasith46893 жыл бұрын
For Reiner it was really Paradis Island. He had actual friends, people weren't ridiculed for their race and blood. And he had people who truly loved and respected him. Everyone else on that island saw it as hell, and although Reiner struggled in that time too, for him it was like paradise compared to his life across the ocean.
@blackirontarkus39973 жыл бұрын
The thing I find most depressing about Reiner is that he lost Bertholdt, the one person who looked after him and the one person who Reiner could call a friend, or more applicable, a brother. Part of me thinks that Reiner wished to die alongside Bertholdt during the retake of wall Maria op, instead Bertholdt dies screaming for his comrades without Reiner alongside him. Added with the guilt of death and destruction Reiner caused, Reiner probably has survivor's guilt for living at the expense for his comrade's sacrifice. Now Reiner's alone with no one to truly understand him, as Bertholdt and Reiner have been through thick and thin together and for Reiner to lose his brother abruptly is nothing short of tragic.

My favorite character since the beginning. I liked him because he was so reliable and compassionate, but when I found out they were the ones who broke the wall, I just got more intriuged and wanted to know why they did it. Certainly they had a reason, and they weren't inherently evil since we were shown that none of them enjoyed what they did, even going as far as driving them to have their own psychological and mental damage. Reiner, Annie, and Bertholdt have been manipulated and has their dreams of a good life taken advantage of, manipulated into killing people and then broke down after so much.

Seriously, Reiner's character and his struggle with mental peace rising due to the sins he has to commit while staying true to his base nature has been something that has shaken me to my core. Rarely has been such a complex character done so right. Hats off to attack on titan to make some of the most compelling characters I've ever seen in any media!

What's sad is that the only person who probably truly understood him was Bertolt. The fact that Reiner had to go home without him made him so tragic. He felt so alone because he doesn't fit anywhere now. If Bert had been there with him on his return, at least he would be able to share the grief because someone could understand what he was going through, but he didn't, and now Reiner has to suffer all alone, unable to tell anyone what he's going through.

Damn this gave me feels ;__; Such great editing! 10/10 would feel again. Jokes aside this just highlighted how great character Reiner really is! To think at the start of AOT I just saw him as this simple buff guy with not much of a personality and later he turned out to be one of the most tragic if not the most tragic character in this story. It's what I actually have grown to love about Isayama's storytelling. First we get these simple introductions to these characters and then can even forget them for a while, but later after a lot of time we suddenly return to them and see their perspective and it suddenly changes everything and we are forced to re- think everything we knew about them. Forced in a good way.

"The road to hell is paved with good intentions" and laminated with the blood of the young, the naïve, and the ignorant AOT is a story of humanity. We are all Eren. We are all Reiner. We all share in the tragedies that set us apart, through our youth, our naivety, our ignorance Greatest anime of all time

I have never seen a more complex character than Reiner. I used to dislike him, but if you try to see the events through his eyes... damn, it is devastating and there are no right answers. This guy was already fucked in so many ways since the moment he was born.

"WHY!?....... why did I let myself dissolve...... INTO SUCH A HALF ASSED PIECE OF SHIT!!" This is the most impactful part of his speech. Why? If you rewatch it. You can see Reiner tearing up. He didn't want to do what he did. He truly cared about Eren and the others. You can also see how damaged he is from playing two different people. My heart bleeds for him. We love you Reiner!

Reiner is one of my favorite characters in all Japanese animations. He is never innocent, but he is clearly a character who has shown strong responsibility and mental growth. Even his fragile and realistic parts are attractive! At least for me, he is a very well-written character.

Reiner is the definition of a tragic character and is one of the most interesting characters in this show. RBA as a whole are some of the most interesting characters in the show and I love the slow tragic development over the seasons leading up to this last one. My favourite speech in the show is still the someone find us speech given it really illustrates how torn apart they are inside.

An unwanted son, a warrior that was never meant to be, but a hero we all deserved. Its funny how a lot of fandom didnt understand all the meaning Isayama had put in this masterpiece and how he crushed all the stereotypes about heroes and villains, its all a matter of perspective and point of view. Eren and Reiner two sides of the same coin, just beautiful.

Reiner became my favorite since the episode where he lifted a titan on his shoulders. People seemed to hate the warriors for killing all those people, but they don't seem to mind what eren is about to do. Spoiler Notice how eren was perceived as humanity's hero, and the warriors as villains who want to wipe out humanity. Now, the warriors are presented as heroes while eren is trying to wipe out humanity.

People hate on Gabi for what happened in the recent episode but you cannot blame her for being the way she is since she's just led to believe all of those things. She's doing exactly what eren would've done. Gabi is like eren in the sense that she wants the other side gone for good. This video made me realize that Reiner was also like Eren but he witnessed what the other side was like and changed because he understands that he is just being fed lies. The eren in season 4 is like the Reiner who attacked Paradis except that Eren doesn't care about the other side at all, you can tell Reiner and Bertholdt actually did care about the other side at one point, Bertholdt even said it at one point.

Eren: "What was your goal?" Reiner: "To destroy the walls...and...save the world." Eren: "Ahh, I see. That is noble of you. That would be justice, however, what about my mother? My friends? My home? They suffered the same fate as Liberio, at the hands of you...warriors. How is it fair to only let you preach about saving the world?" Reiner: "Please...let me die..." Eren: "Once, Marley's Titan army had grown too formidable. To protect their national interests, armies of the world built up anti-Titan cannons and technology to fight wars from the skies. Otherwise, the people of the world would've been crushed beneath the weight of Marley's power. As it happened, my little island and its walls became targets of your attacks. With each attack, we lost more people, more land, and our fighting power diminished. After many such battles, Marley remained untouched, but we continued to suffer, and we barely recovered. You and I are seeking the very same thing. We both want to achieve the peace that we envisioned as children. You and I are the same. We're both motivated by our desire for peace and justice. The justice I have delivered against Liberio is no different than what you did to us. Everyone feels the same pain in losing something dear. You and I have both experienced that pain. You strive for your justice, and I strive for mine. We're both just ordinary men, who have been driven to seek vengeance in the name of justice. And, if one comes to call vengeance justice, such justice will only breed further vengeance, and trigger a vicious cycle of hatred. Right now, we live in such a cycle. I know the past, and can foretell our future. It is the same as our history. So we believe that human beings simply cannot understand each other, and they never will. This cruel world of ours is ruled by hatred, and hatred alone. I just keep moving forward, until my enemies are destroyed."
