I wouldn't call any of them role models. It's just entertainment.

This show WAS ahead of it's time. Today domestic human sex trafficking is thriving. I bet with confidence, that men who recruited for this show certainly lurred woman for "modeling jobs" just to be trafficed into porn and prostitution. The time period when it aired took prostitution on video to new levels. Shows like this made soft porn readily available to the public, unavoidable for children, and forced hard prostitution on film to increase it's intensity to regain its novelty. Regularly having to view this show was damaging to me as a little girl, and I know I'm not the only one.

However, I remember when the episodes were new, and being shown for the first time, way back then, and I seem to remember there were plenty of haters, just like today, and, like today, there were more people who loved it than hated it. It is also, based on All In The Family, and I am old enough to remember when it was new, and and there was a similar number of people who were easily offended back then too. I am even old enough to have been around for the the original original, Till Death Us Do Part which was a British show in the 1960’s, and even then there were those who were offended by the loud mouth, opinionated, prejudiced Alf Garnet. It is no coincidence that in all three shows, the loud mouth misogynist husband was a variation of Alf, - Archie, and Al. Of the three of them, All in the family was most interesting for the way it tackled serious social issues, but all of the shows endlessly mocked prejudice, and I think that there is always room for satire of this type... and there would always be the easily offended types who miss the satirical aspects and take it all too seriously. Give it time, however, and an updated version of the concept is likely to be made again at some point. All three shows made a pile of money for the producers, and where there is money to be made, there will be someone wanting to go back down the mine to dig more gold.
