Al Foster feat. by WDR BIG BAND - Aloysius

Rehearsal of the WDR Big Band at WDR Studio 4: The guest drummer is Al Foster (drums), Mike Holober leads the WDR Big Band. Solos are played by John Marshall, trumpet, Paul Heller, saxophone and Al Foster on drums. The song "Aloysius" is written by Al Foster himself, the arrangement is by Mike Holober.
Al Foster grew up in New York, where he had the pleasure of hearing Miles Davis live at the age of 15. The teenager had never dreamed that some 15 years later the drummer himself would play with the great trumpeter. In the meantime, Al Foster has also become part of jazz history.

This is a rearrangement of the song "Mixed Roots" that was on the album of the same name released by Al in the '70s. That one was a funk tune, heavy wah-wah guitar in the background, it's interesting to hear it turned into a swing tune.
