Al-Jamiʿ al-Anwar, also known as the masjid of the Fatimi Imam al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah in Cairo, holds immense cultural and religious significance for the Dawoodi Bohra Muslim community. Built in the early 11th century, its comprehensive restoration led by the late His Holiness Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin in 1980-coinciding with the start of the 15th Islamic century-marked a pivotal moment for the community, heralding a spiritual, cultural, and architectural renaissance.

There is historical evidence to suggest that the Fatimid Caliph al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah, who ruled from 996 to 1021, ordered the transfer of the body of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) from Medina to Cairo. This controversial historical event is known as the "Translocation of the Holy Mantle" or "The Incident of the Mantle."There have been a number of attempts throughout history to remove the blessed body of the Prophet ﷺ from its resting place. At least two attempts were carried out by the Fatimid Caliph Al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah. He also tried to demolish the church of the holy sepulchre where prophet isa was buried before being ascended to heaven.
