I saw him live in Kalamazoo, MI with the Symphony not long before he passed. He couldn’t walk but that voice, that beautiful voice was as strong as ever!

He completely surrenders to the joy that made this song such a masterpiece. His untamed expression of that joy is inspiring beyond words. 🥹 His live performances allow him to share everything that was behind the creation of his music...a peek under the hood at the engine. I love it!

He was a gift FROM heaven…. And as a sad thank you we gave him back… He and Nat Cole had very similar physical attributes; a ton of air, very broad and open wind and nasal passages, huge open throats… And they both had such beautiful outrageous tastefulness. Nat Cole was ( I believe) the first black man to halt a TV show in the USA. and I can’t think of greater physical talent combined with pure musical taste than those two. There are other greats… but I’m comfortable calling these two… the greatest.

As a 4 string jazz bass player for the last 40+ years who's recently graduated to a p7 5 string I've used this bassline to practice with. Like most new 5 stringers, and like the bassist on this track, i CAN'T leave that damned low B alone! This live version of Abraham Laboriel's bassline on 'Mornin' is 🔥 And bother Al Jarreau will always rest in power in my mind as one of the best jazz vocalists. 🖤🖤🖤

LYRICS (YEAR 1983): Mornin' Mr. Radio Mornin' little Cheerios Mornin' sister Oriole Did I tell you everything is fine In my mind? Mornin' Mr. Shoe Shine Man Shine 'em bright in white and tan My baby said she loves me and Need I tell you that Everything here is just fine In my mind 'Scuse me if I sing My heart has found its wings Searchin' high and low And now at last I know Mornin' Mr. Golden Gate I should walk but I can't wait I can't wait to set it straight I was shakin' but now I am Makin' it fine Here in my mind My heart will soar With love that's rare and real My smiling face will feel every cloud Then higher still Beyond the blue until I know I can Like any man Reach out my hand And touch the face of God 'Scuse me if I sing My heart has found its wings Searchin' high and low And now at last I know Mornin' Mr. Radio Mornin' little Cheerios Mornin' sister Oriole Did I tell you everything is fine Woo, in my mind? So, won't you get up Oriole? So, won't you get up Cheerios? Wake up Mr. Radio It's fine Here in my mind Singin' 'bout mornin' little radio Mornin' little Cheerios

Please I am trying to learn this song and Al Jerreau sings this beautiful with the right musical tones and highs and lows! I heard another guy also named Al and his band Altruistic where he sings and plays a flute! I have a Lotta musician friends one I just lost,a Saxophone Player and other instruments Joe Mayo who played with The Temptations! That Song Morning for a White guy ain't easy to sing!Yet I think of it at 5am in the morning taking out my Husky Shiloh a rescue from Tennesee with a blue and brown eye who will charm you and he chases deer, rabbits, and I told him birds are spirits leave them alone! Al Jerreau is a Jazz Enigma who changes up his music I guess every concert!

Sadly Al did too much scatting in most of his live singing. People wanted to hear him sing normally. But he rarely sang calmly. I dont know if he drank to much coffee before the show. But in jis albums his record company did not allow him to screw around and that is why his records sound perfect. But live .....Uffa.
