Their hardships seem mostly to revolve around the fact that they lost their husbands in a culture and society where women need to have male guardians in order to do even the most trivial things, such as get a passport. That's really the sad part about this documentary, their hardships as such are otherwise not much different from what millions of their compatriots are experiencing...

The fact that this was the only thing you got from the video shows just how entrenched in stereotypes your thinking is- stereotypes that you obviously developed from your western culture which is the reason that this chaos started in the first place. Their hardships are because of American Colonialism. Period! Not to mention the fact that the men are also facing the same hardships. All very sad, but these ppl need to be a little more grateful that they are not living in tents in some refugee camp slum w/o even the basics...they need to leave the idea and memories of their previous privileged lives behind and consider themselves lucky to be receiving the help they get from the NGO's and that they and their family are still alive even if they don't have all that they had before...
