In those days, they could be singing the most depressing words ever (I mean, he's telling Dad he's ready to fall big time!) but the catchy music made everything sound so happy. Kinda like disco, really...when you think about it.

A few years back I came across a box set of Al Jolson songs on a well known on-line shopping platform and I suppose after having heard my Mum and Dad talk about this guy, curiosity got the better of me and I decided to find out what all the fuss had been about. Like yourself, I had expected to hear old scratchy, dated recordings and nothing could have been further from the truth. I was simply blown away with the man's energy, warmth and passion behind the voice. Consequently, I am now a fan for life😀.

I was 16 ( I'm 77 now) & one night on TV I heard "Jolie sing! I was electrified! He was & is my favorite singer! I love hundreds of singer from different generations, but over & over, I find that so very many of them were influenced by Jolson. Not the greatest person, but what an entertainer!
