Adjusting the allen bolt "by hand" is basically holding the key vertically until you feel it touch/resist. Doing each to a different setting will cause uneven wear and shorter life. Also noticed the blade (which has a slightly elliptical travel) was slapping back against the guide plates. With it fitted to the dog, when the blade is at the end of its travel it should sit about 1mm off the plates. Hitting the plates increases vibration, noise, wear and user fatigue.

I will take note.

@@Charlyfarly2 As I have my 857 ii on the bench for a service/clean and to change a bowden cable right now, I've been digging up all the workshop tech. I'm going to add some rubber sheet under the guide plates to see if I can't iron out some of that slap, and while I'm at it I may see if I can't add some weights to balance out the main pulley wheel.

@@docthebiker That all sounds very complicated

@@Charlyfarly2 It's just old bits of inner tube sandwiched under the plates, and epoxying a few wheel weights on to the main pulley to balance out the crank. She shakes her head pretty well so doesn't need it, but it insults my engineer's aesthetics to leave any revolving part unbalanced. Respect for taking on that job with a scythe mower. I probably have got someone in with a chain flail to take on growth that dense.

Charly don't adjust the belt loose. You adjust under tension. You risk getting it too tight and knackering the roller bearings. Also makes it harder to pull the handle. As long as it's not dropping off, or driving the blades, you don't worry about how slack it is.

An awesome machine. I am considering purchasing one of these for my small business. In your opinion, would it cut through brambles and nettle patches easily? Informative video , thanks for uploading.

I would think so but it's not a professional machine.

I bought this one in a box.Now I can't assemble it.Is it any good for short grass as well?I don't want to spend more money for a regular mower.

It should be if it is sharp and well adjusted and set at its lowest. There is another video showing how to do this.
