Gary didn't write it either. It was a girl named Peppermint! Can't you tell this is a woman's song? Listen to Jo Baker's version, then you'll realize it is a woman's song.
@insomniatique4214

Peppermint Harris was a man. The original by Fenton (mislabeled Fention) Robinson is more up-tempo/jump. I don't know who first slowed it down, it could be Albert. He changes a couple of lines. All later covers follow Albert's version. On this track it's Mike Bloomfield on guitar, Al Kooper piano. Charles Brown was a famous piano player. If there is a Charlie Brown who played this, he's a white guy with the same Les Paul sound as Bloomfield.

Been listening to Kooper since BS&T ,Super Session,and saw him in the nineties in S.F at the Warfield when he was on tour as a member of Joe Walsh's Band . He has some stories about Joe's drinking days. Great Musician and enjoyed his lifes work.

Barry Goldberg and Mike Bloomfield did an album in the '60s called "2 Jews Blues." Could've applied as well to Mr. Kuperschmidt and Mr. Bloomfield...a couple of nice Jewish boys..."Jews Brothers" is more fitting, IMHO.

Soooo good on Headphones. Love the photo choices. Like a movie with such poetic blues. Al Kooper is god...or pretty darn close. Guitarist is pure tone and phrasing. Bassist is tight. Snare drum...tonality great. Love Al's Hammond organ sultry voicing...photos are excellent for repeated views. Norman Rockwell and all. Dig the famous Hendrix drum photo. Al was cropped out, LOL! Hope Alfonts gets to see this!

Big fan of Kooper’s. Just finished his autobiography not too long ago. Oh, the stories he can tell! And with a good sense of humor, willingly retelling stories where he was the butt of the joke! I’m a fan of BS&T, and I must admit I favor their first album on which he was essential. I was fortunate enough to live in San Francisco during the era of THE BEST MUSIC, and got to see uncountable great bands, including BS&T with Kooper at the helm, at the Avalon Ballroom, among other great venues. (What a fantastic time and place it was to be young!) So many good songs by him on that first album. Not the greatest singer, but a very talented man. Love the lead guitar here by Michael B.! Someone in the Comments mentioned this was covered by Gary Moore; oh, man…I’ve GOT to hear that!

One night at the Berkeley Keystone, Albert King absolutely shook the earth with his solo on this one. John Mayall and the 'original' Bluesbreakers (w/Mick Taylor and John McVie) had opened the show and I think Albert wanted to give Mr. Taylor and company, as well as the enraptured crowd, something to remember. And he did.
