Elder, pastor and leader of the flock is the person that fulfills the role of preaching the infallible word of God to the flock, especially in a house of worship. FIRST, let me state VERY clearly that i AGREE with what Al Mohler said about how ridiculous it'd be if we had to have a committee decide what every word means in the BF&M. HOWEVER he's being a hypocrite. As a "reformed" calvinist he redefines words all the time to fit his theology. "All" doesnt mean "ALL", "world" doesn't mean "world", "any" doesn"t mean "any" and on and on. You can NOT be both reformed and Baptist at the same time. Even the Presbyterians laugh at such a notion. So until a president of an SBC seminary applies the same standard to words found in scripture, he's a hypocrite. He leads a school that MY money supports, but would not allow me to teach at since I am not "reformed". This is BS. probably the reason Voddie and Ascol were defeated is because of the reasons I just stated. Baptists by nature are NOT reformed, even tho they may be calvinistic. SECOND, it is true that some churches use the word pastor too loosely. Some may call someone who works with youth a "youth director" while the same position at another church may be titled "youth pastor". Same goes for "minister of music/music director vs "worship pastor". Some clarity is needed. Anyone who must be "ordained" should be a male. What would a "Christian" Pharisee look like? You might see some examples during events like this one. Jesus said, "If they're not against us, they're for us" (See Mark 9:40; Luke 9:50). Yet, here we are, knocking Christians, men and women, off of the "official," creed-approved list in a Christian tradition that, historically, has been suspicious of creed thumping. Many look back with pride at the "conservative resurgence" of the SBC in 2000 while, at the same time, denying the heinous, immoral behaviors of stalwarts in that movement who are now trying to excuse inexcusable behaviors. Yeah, let's go back to sexism against women as a supposedly, clear biblical virtue (as slavery used to be clear in the Bible for many SBC conservatives) and get away from those troublesome, sexual allegations against some of those heroes in the late 90's who led the "fight for the Bible." The historic stench of SBC predation, abuse and victim blaming is on full display at this Convention. Some things never change.

I am no professional theologian; but I think one of the reasons this issue is so hot button is because not only does it not align with clear biblical teaching, but in the past 20-30 years the slippery slope of theological egalitarianism can be evidently seen in the church landscape of America. The ELCA, the largest Lutheran denomination in America went from egalitarian to ordaining practicing homosexuals. The PCUSA, the largest Presbyterian denomination in America went from egalitarian to ordaining and marrying openly practicing homosexuals. The UMC, the largest Methodist denomination in America went from egalitarian, to splitting this year with the majority supporting the ordination and marriage of openly practicing homosexuals. The Episcopal church started with egalitarianism and now ordains and marries openly practicing homosexuals. What do you think the future of the SBC will be if it adopts a passive attitude of Egalitarianism? It wont be if the denomination will go the way of the others, but when.

@@ShepherdMinistry my reasoning is scriptural authority. These confessionals, LBF&M 1689, WCF, and now, the Baptist Faith and Message of 2000. The so-called proof text to corroborate the claims written in these decrees, must have never been examined. Yet they are excepted as inspired writings. The statements seem very strongly to contradict themselves listed in chapter 3 of WCF, "God's decrees." The Bible's words are the ionly nspired words of God. My point here is to correct the wrong of calvinism in the SBC, and throw it out. It is a doctrine of demons. All of it. The gospel is available to ALL MEN.
