Female Pastors, Cultural Chaos: Dr. Albert Mohler Breaks Down Situation Facing SBC as Meeting Begins

Dr. Albert Mohler Jr., a prominent theologian and president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, detailed what he believes is the most pressing issue facing the church today and said it is "the bottom-line question of faithfulness." "Is the church going to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ - stand by the entirety of biblical truth?" he asked. "Everything else basically is derivative of that great challenge, and you can say that it's been the perpetual challenge of the church - and will be until Jesus comes."
Throughout church history, Mohler said there are times the faith is "tested from many different sides, on many different issues, many different dimensions at one time." He believes the faith faces one such moment today. Mohler also said he's "hopeful" but also "honest" about the massive issues facing Southern Baptists as the denomination gathers this week for its annual meeting.
"I don't think anybody's got an easy way forward," Mohler told CBN's Faithwire last month during the National Religious Broadcasters Convention. "If you're serious about doing anything, you're going to have controversy." The faith leader said the Southern Baptist Convention's (SBC) 2023 Annual Meeting & Pastors’ Conference, which kicks off today and concludes Wednesday in New Orleans, is unfolding during a time of deep disagreements within Baptist circles.
"Some of them are kind of surface-level [issues]; some of them are deeper," Mohler said. "And I think we're now at some deeper ... issues of disagreement, particularly over women serving as pastors, particularly over how to approach these big cultural issues [and] how to speak publicly about them." The issue of female pastors is one of the most publicized controversies after the SBC's Executive Committee voted to oust five churches, including California megachurch Saddleback Church, founded by Rick Warren.
Saddleback and one other church are appealing the decision at this week's meeting. Mohler said he's a "conservative confessionalist" and believes everything comes down to the inherency of Scripture and the importance of defending the faith. "I don't think there's any way to make the world like us more," he added. "We need not to be obnoxious. Yes, we need to be kind and respectful, but the fact is the world's not going to like us a whole lot more for being respectful."
Watch Mohler discuss a plethora of other faith and culture topics as well.

I've had a few very nice, well spoken people, come to my door and share the Word/Truth with me. Each one was able to use The Bible to show that they were right in their interpretations by quoting verse. If the other two didn't come by, it wouldn't have been as confusing. Each denomination said that they were absolutely right and all others were wrong. They were each, very serious and steadfast in their claims. The problem, to me, were the contradictions.

Im a female and i believe in this: 2 Timothy 3:16-17 English Standard Version 16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God[a] may be complete, equipped for every good work. 1 Timothy 2:11-15 English Standard Version 11 Let a woman learn quietly with all submissiveness. 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet. 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve; 14 and Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and became a transgressor. 15 Yet she will be saved through childbearing-if they continue in faith and love and holiness, with self-control. All the words that are on our Bible, are inspired by God and for so, we have to respect them and follow them and obey His commandments in a humble way🙏 we cant conform to this age we have to keep obeying Gods word.

@@a5dr3 No, I get what you’re saying. My main concerns with him (and I HOPE he was genuinely born again before his passing) was his belief in theistic evolution, consistent reluctance to condemn homosexuality, and, if you’ve never seen it, a disastrous interview he did in the 2010s where he really waffled on the exclusivity of Christianity. Ultimately, regardless of who our favorite past or contemporary theologians are, we should remember Isaiah 2:22- ‘Put not your trust in man, who has but a breath of air in his nostrils; on what account is he?’

@@patrickc3419 I knew him a little bit. Over the years I actually got to spend a lot of time with him. - His philosophy was you catch more flies with honey, and that Christians should be salt of the earth and not condemnatory. I’ve also heard him criticize himself as a middle child who tried tried help people get along and instinctually avoided conflict. I also thought he should have took more of a stand on a lot of issues, but to my frustration he considered his ministry a unique one, almost a gateway church, and he played the part. - He was most definitely a Christian. I don’t think I know anyone who was as consistently in the Word and as prayerful. He was kind of on another level in that regard, like stories you hear about Luther or Edwards. In my personal estimation he was a spiritual giant.

@@fairedepeche🤣🤣And because of YOUR liberation you are seeing the rot of the country like President Lincoln talked about. I remember watching on tv people like you marching in the streets, burning their bras, because you wanted equal pay, treatment and fairness. Yet when I was in the Army out of a class of 100 at Fort Hood, not one female Soldier raised her hand to volunteer for a combat MOS and fight on the battlefield. Or what about PassPort Bros going overseas to find women to marry who aren’t tainted and poisoned with American womanism ideology. Why is it that 64% of men in this country tell women to cram marriage up their azz because no decent thinking man enters a marriage contract knowing that the woman is rewarded for breaking it. It’s obvious you are clueless on what the Bible says and God says for that matter about men and women. Just like in the Army there is ONE Commanding Officer and ONE Executive Officer. There is ONE leader leading and another backing him up. Just as God is head and leadership of man, man is head and leadership of woman. You can’t have two CEOs of a company and expect the company to succeed. Oh and let’s not forget about the time when I was stationed in South Korea as a tank commander gearing up for Iraq and my XO was telling me a story about his FEMALE Commander of a Patriot missile battery that Saddam Hussein was raining down scuds on their position and she was curled up in a ball in the fetal position crying and refused to give fire commands until he took over and gave the commands to fire back!! Yea that’s a woman for ya, failing at a time of need in combat!! So as far as I’m concerned you can take your feminism to the grave and on the way there shove it up your azz you m0r0n and while you’re at it go F YOURSELF!!!!!!

God will not forget what is going on in America and everywhere in the world. People are accumulating money, land, houses. While some have nothing. We will be accountable to God. Churches didn’t do that in the beginning, oh no, they distributed their wealth and knowledge. So yes, the issues the church faces today is not gender, it is the social disparity between them and us.

Really good interview. I'm so blessed to hear from this man concerning these very serious cultural issues. Our times are very challenging and we cannot continue to pretend that it's business as usual. Most people don't want confrontation, we want peace to love our neighbors and raise our families, but harder times are coming and those gentle things will become more and more difficult. Jesus and God's Word has to become the focal point of our individual lives so that we have the strength and the hope to continue forward.

It's good to see dr Mohler stating he's a conservative. He lost a lot of credibility and influence over the last couple of years because of sitting on the fence. I just pray that he makes the right decisions. In his book "The disappearance of God" he has a great perspective on what is going on in the West right now and I was surprised to see his stance on issues like CRT. Interestingly enough he is also realising that the seeker friendly approach of Rick Warren is only producing numbers of fake converts.

I have grown up in the Assemblies of God. I will say that I appreciate the Southern Baptists desire to not sway from Biblical teachings. Even at the cost of potential dwindling membership. I always remember, that Gideon kept on reducing his army clear down to 300. Numbers are not everything and not always a sign of spiritual strength!

In Ephesians Paul makes it clear that "in the spiritual realm" which is what the Church is, we do not have "bond or free," Jew or Gentile," "male or female." Male and Female designations are for marriage only. The physical aspects of the differences in men and women is soley for the marriage relationship. The man on the street is not male in anyway that applies to me, since there is no physical relationship involved; he is God's creation that I am to respect even as the female on the street is to be the same to me.

GOD, said absolutely nothing about homosexuality, only a couple of men whose writings were collected in the Bible. Have you ever wondered why Jesus Christ never mentioned any of the issues that so called 'christians' get so worked up about these days? Here, though, is what Jesus Christ actually said: Mark 12:31 "And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these."
