I clicked on this thinking "Oh word, I love British humor. This is a treasure of a find!" I left it feeling like I speak basic Spanish after watching a movie in Mexico without subtitles. My American ass is befuddled.

@@Tyracks Depending on education and personal life experience, the Dutch have always had an excellent understanding on the British ways a great understanding of British culture. I'll just say "WW2 - thank you". As an aside, my late father (1915 - 2001 ex-WW2 RAF pilot), did at least one-plane sortie in his Whitley bomber, circa 1940, against the Nazi oil refineries in Holland and a few years later dropped food supplies to the Dutch people. I love the Nederlanders.
@robthornton62882 жыл бұрын
@@Tyracks The Dutch have amazing language skills. I worked for Philips at a reasonably high level and all meetings were in English. During breaks, people would leave the room and when we came back, Dutch colleagues (who were the only people in the room) were still speaking in English amongst themselves.

@@pierredanisy9118 So should we all. Memories appear to be more fleeting as times go by. Germany deliberately Starved the Dutch People as they were losing WW2, and that should Never be forgotten. Thank you for you Father's Service. /Salute

I wonder if Al knows the origins of Baa Baa Black Sheep, if he does it’s a bit weird
@johnssciencentech47782 жыл бұрын
Baa Baa Black Sheep is about the medieval wool tax, imposed in the 13th Century by King Edward I. Under the new rules, a third of the cost of a sack of wool went to him, another went to the church and the last to the farmer

For saying hes a very well educated man, who studied history, at Cambridge or Oxford, I'd say so, yes. Think his degree is in history. He's actually very well to do person. Al Murray is just a character, which he pulls off marvellously by the way.
@jerrysmith23602 жыл бұрын
Normally when you get a parody of a right wing nutter you tend to find the fan base is overwhelmingly to the right eg Alf Garnett and loads of money. The genius of Al Murray is that that co-opt ion by the right hasn’t happened (I believe Farage and co still hate his guts) most people understand their attitudes are being parodied when an English builder etc is referred to as Polish. I put him on a par with Stewart Lee and Frankie Boyle, who understand comedy needs to have a dangerous but thoughtful edge.
