I have question for verse 14, some reciters recite it differently for the beginning words. “Kalla barra..” or “Kalla bal-ra…” Can someone explains this difference and which one should I follow?

Assalamualikum. In tajweed, there is a rule called sakt. This is compulsory in 4 places. Verse 14 here is one of them. Basically sakt means hiding. In this ayah, there is sakt (indicated as س) above ل. Because of that sakt you apply rule izhar instead of idhgham. So you read as “bal rana” From recitation point of view, you stop your recitation where your voice stops but your breath doesn’t break. As you can see in sheikh’s recitation. (This rule is in Quran Hafs An Assim Min Tareeqati Shaatibiyyah, I don’t have any idea about other qiraat recitations, may be thats why other reciters read differently, I’m not sure) Jazakallahu khair

For those who are learning Tajweed, I usually recommend Mishary Al Afasy. He has a good tune and crystal clear Tajweed. Qari Abdul Basit is good for beginners to also listen to if you are not fluent and make mistakes with lengthening short vowels, as he recites very slowly so you have more time to look at words if you try to replicate his tune. Hope this helps.
