I have watched this many times. One of the best films made in the eighties -- I don't understand why it isn't more highly regarded, or for that matter why there aren't more films about this important part of US history instead of the dumb Westerns. Thanks for the upload.

This movie was savaged by the critics. I understand what Al Pacino was going for with his whispering instead of talking, being just a quiet guy, wanting people to leave him alone... but it doesn't work. I think someone dropped the ball in post-production. Otherwise this is like a darker, more realistic version of the Patriot.
@Taiko-THC3498 ай бұрын
" like a darker, more realistic version of the Patriot." I remember watching this with my mum years ago and I had already seen the Patriot before that time and pretty much I was thinking the exact same and my mum said something along the same lines during the closing credits.

In deed a more realistic darker version of The Patriot! I amazes me that this film gained so little attention.

Great movie about real facts. The director and all others upheld the genuine scenes of those days of revolution. Really I can visualize those days of America living in front of my eyes. Each and every scenes and dresses carts and guns and everything everything as if carried forward upon our eyes lively. Absolutely enchanting movies about people struggles and survival against injustice and exploitations. Great movie. Nowadays Hollywood has forgotten to make such types of magnificent movies of real life which have human elements and human qualities that can enrich our humanity love power of struggle and ambition to win any unfavorable situation. 11.11.23.

@unclearthur91929 ай бұрын
If you look closely at 25:14 you will see that the "musket" is actually a .45/70 Springfield breechloader circa 1870's.There were plenty of period flintlock muskets and rifles in this movie but it was common to provide breechloading firearms( sometimes with dummy flintlocks) in early movies. "Zulu" had LeeMetford boltaction rifles to pad out the correct period Martini/Henry rifles. You could go on---I saw Winchester M95 leveraction rifles( a WW1 Csarist contract rifle) in a Russian made Napoleonic period film--sorry, cant remember its name. For me( a historical accuracy gun nut) these non period firearms do not detract from the movie. The battle scenes were quite well done. I enjoyed first watching "Revolution" 30 or so years ago and enjoyed watching it again recently.

Sensational! Much busier than, but much the same feel as Martin Sheen's film, One Man's War. Well done to the makers, and thanks for sharing. I didn't know about this film. The earlier scenes made me think about the Borderers who had emigrated to the colonies, the antipathy they must've felt toward the Crown, and what fighting for their lives, again, must've been like.

Revolution... is a British historical drama movie (directed 1985)... wherein fur trapper Tom Dobb (Al Pacine) reluctantly participates in the American Revolutionary War after his young son Ned (Dexter Fletcher) join the Continental Army as a drummer boy against his father wish. Later his son is captured by the British and taken by the strict Sergeant Major Peasy (Donald Sutherland) to replace dead British drummer boys. Dobb attempts to find him, and along the way, he becomes convinced that he must help fight for the freedom of the Thirteen Colonies, alongside the disgraced and idealistic aristocrat Daisy McConnahay (Nastassja Kinski). 🥸

The Russians are responsible for the criminal policies of their government. They support a war of aggression against the Ukrainian people, the destruction of cities and villages, the killing of civilians, and the looting of Ukrainian grain. I see how Putin's Russia is turning into a Nazi state. And the atrocities in Bucha, Irpen, the destruction of Mariupol and many other crimes resemble the practice of genocide. The Russians would pay reparations for decades for all the evil that they brought to our land.

I loved that film when it came out in 1985. Nastassia Kinski was wonderful in it. The critics back then dismissed "Revolution" as a "confusing mess". Well, FFS!, war IS a confusing mess!!! It's great to see this film got a late reappraisal. It's a masterpiece. Even if Annie Lennox' mini cameo left something to be desired.

Good setting, excellent actors, great outfit. I only found that stream of Tom's thoughts from the off a bit annoying. You either show things on screen, or you make an audio book. And the recurring sound of fighter planes is really unnerving. Apart from that, I really enjoyed it.

Interesting. . . I spent around 3 months close to Mt Isa during the late 70's on a cattle station mustering that whole time. Much the same experience as this fella. Even though it was spinifex country, the cattle did extremely well. Big difference to where I am today in the Philippines where they tend to tie their cattle up with a nose rope. That makes them much quieter to handle.

The only thing I learnt from this movie is that the Continental Army forced minors and other individuals to be recruited into their army. Just like the British Army. For that - I deeply reject the attitude by both of them. Count me out.
@nikypercea11 ай бұрын
was common back then to hire minors for drummer boys, all armies did that, including french and rusians also... oh and i believed the fleets had something called powder monkeys (little boys no more than 7-8 who were tasked with bringing gun powder barrels to cannon crews). they were the highest paying jobs in the armies, due to high risk and if the boy managed to survive somehow, he could opt not to continue in the army when he became an adult.

This movie excels in direction, acting, the gradual flow of the storyline, and most importantly the overall setup which gives the feeling of societal turmoil during the Victorian era US. However, the background narration is more of a barely audible whisper, and that perhaps, is the biggest TURN OFF for this otherwise classic movie. It was absolutely annoying to continuously play with the volume button.
