I guess all or mostly negative critics are from America. I was not the perfect movie, but many American movie on WWII should never have been on the big screen. I was delightful to see David Niven, Trevor Howard, Patrick Macnee, Gregory Peck, Roger Moore and many more. ''In the film, a group of unlikely heroes must band together to execute a daring mission that could changed the course of history.'' Film critic, Robert Roten wrote: "a workmanlike film told in a non-flashy, straightforward way, featuring an all-star cast.''. A great entertaining movie, it was.

A true story, codenamed "Operation Creek". But the film contains some inaccuracies. In fact the movie was a work of fiction based on an actual event. In the real raid "Captain" Gavin Stewart was in fact a Colonel, not a Captain. Also there were no casualties among any of the British personnel, unlike in the movie. In the real raid, they did not blow the ships up with Limpet mines but the Germans scuttled their own ships. Unlike in the movie, dozens of Germans were not killed. The actual German death toll was four. The rest swam ashore. The lone woman Nazi agent was in reality not a lone woman, but was a Gestapo couple codenamed "Trompeta" or Trumpet. In fact Trompeta wasn't actually her codename. It was her male partners/husbands codename. She was only assisting him. In the real life incident, she was not killed by Stewart as depicted in the movie, but both her and her partner were captured during the raid and later interrogated by British Intelligence. Interestingly, there is no surviving records of her or her partner. No trace exists today of her. Even though she was spying on British shipping leaving port for German U-Boats,. They couldn't be legally tried and executed as spies, due to the fact they were illegally abducted operating in the neutral Portuguese Territory of Goa, and not within British jurisdiction. Therefore they hadn't committed any espionage related offences under British law. They couldn't be legally interned in a PoW camp either. And at the same time, because they were spies they couldn't let them go so they could continue working for the Nazis against the Allies. All of which presents the little matter of what to do with them. So it would seem British Military Intelligence found another way to solve the problem of what to do with her and her partner. So, lets just say that war is a dirty business and the Intelligence game is as filthy as it gets. Rules get broken and when that happens you just don't keep any records. Hence, no trace of them.
@stuartmccall547418 күн бұрын

They did their best with some geriatric old war heroes. It's hard to compare with the fast paced, karate-spy-bodybuilder movies we have now days. Today the spy has to be a pro-wrestler, have abs, look sweet for the ladies and keep a hidden room full of spy equipment. Satellite connections, silencers, submachine guns, and grenades are all in the modern spy kit and he's got to be a jiu jitsu master. Back then the plot was more important than the kung fu.
