What is so funny is that Robin Williams couldn’t really sing either. He felt more like he monologued to music. Those songs were so specific to him and his style. In the Broadaway musical they were changed to straight songs. So now we switch back, those songs should have been rewritten specially for will Smith the “monologue to music” in his own style.

@@spazarellapoet8735 He's not trying to top his performance. Neither was Dan Castellaneta when he took over the voice of Genie for the animations. And neither are the famous actors from the musicals who are also popular. They all do their own thing. I don't see why it can't be a good genie without having to be like Robin Williams? It's not like the original movie was perfect just because it's good and we feel nostalgic about it. It's not a competition between original and remake. It merely needs to be a good adaption. And it was. Friend Like Me was so exciting in the film. They did good.

I'll base this on my 5 year old's opinion of the movie. She has watched the animated version of the movie dozens of times. At one point she was watching it three times a day almost every day. She's seen the live action version and she has lost her mind. She wants to listen to the soundtrack (especially speechless) everyday. And for some reason she can describe at what point in the movie the song comes with detail of what everyone is doing. She's only seen the movie once. And she wants the build-a-bear Aladdin and Genie, and she wants the toys, and she's learned the words to the songs by heart. I on the other hand spent my time wondering how they were going to treat certain parts. I'm a bit surprised that I enjoyed the movie, a lot. I think Disney good great job on the movie.

Re Jafar... I actually agree with both Korey and Martin. I do miss the old catty Jafar a little, but I think what they did with new Jafar was also interesting. They turned Jafar into a soft-spoken, backstabbing, social/political climber from the streets in the way GoT's Littlefinger kind of was. Sure, he could've been a little creepier in parts (especially in the beginning), but I thought the actor did a good job going full on evil in the second half of the film. Also, I really appreciated the subtle throwbacks the makeup department, Ritchie, and Kenzari put into Jafar's 'hand acting'... the actor's long creepy fingernails were a really nice touch/callback to OG Jafar's animated long creepy fingers! IA, with Martin... Will can't sing and it's a shame Genie's musical numbers (from a Broadway head POV) felt vocally/comedically flat. Seeing and hearing Robin's surprisingly impressive 'comedic on-pitch singing', and quick fire uncanny vocal imitations (paired with the animator's brilliant visual gags) by replaced with never-ending meta references to Will Smith's Hip-hop career was... a choice that felt kind of cheap/a cop out tbh.

I really enjoyed this adaptation of Aladdin. I absolutely love the animated film; it’s my favorite of the Disney animated films from that era. But this may be not only my favorite of Disney’s live action remakes- it may just slightly surpass the animated film for me. While Will Smith obviously would never have developed his genie without the Robin Williams genie- I like Smith’s genie a bit more than Williams’ genie. And I love the changes that this adaptation incorporates to reflect the characters as a bit more relatable than how they’re played in the animated film. I had such a blast watching this movie; and I cannot wait to see it again! 🤗

I dont think it's as good as the original BUT I can appreciate this live-action version. Also I liked will as the genie. I dont think they could have picked anyone else for this character to follow behind robin. Also also let's give will some credit because he actually had to ACT versus doing a voice over in a animation.

In the "Friend Like Me" number, both the Genie and the Carpet do the Carlton dance from Will Smith's comedy The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (1990). The name Jasmine comes from the Persian 'Yasameen,' which means "gift of God Will Smith's first Disney Movie. Dev Patel, Avan Jogia, and Riz Ahmed were considered to play Aladdin. Production designer Gemma Jackson drew inspiration from Moroccan, Persian, and Turkish cultures, Victorian paintings, and Iznik ceramics for the design of Agrabah. Aladdin is a male given Arabic name which means "nobility of faith" or "nobility of creed/ religion." Naomi Scott is the second Indian actress to play Jasmine, after Karen David in Once Upon a Time (2011). This live-action remake of Aladdin (1992) gives more detailed information about Jafar's obscure past. Jasmine and Dalia are flowers' names. This is Guy Ritchie's first PG rated film. Famous Italian actor and comedian Gigi Proietti, who voiced the Genie in the 1992 version, was brought back to voice the Sultan in the remake. Aladdin and Jasmine got married at the end, but in the original Aladdin (1992) they only ended up engaged. They didn't get married until the third and final installment, Aladdin and the King of Thieves (1996). The Genie and his family live on a lamp-shaped boat. The boat represents Genie's own wish for freedom and to go anywhere he wishes, and its shape represents his previous residence. During the Harvest dance scene, one of Aladdin's dance moves mirrors Michael Jackson's dance move for Michael Jackson: Remember the Time (1992). Even though he does not look a day over fifty, Genie seen at the start and end of the film is over a thousand years old. Mena Massoud was born a year before Aladdin (1992) and Naomi Scott was born a year after it. When Jasmine is playing the instrument in Aladdin's home, there's a hidden Mickey around the sound hole. After she's done playing and removes her hand, you see it briefly before she places it back down on the ground. Mena Massoud (Aladdin) was thought to have been born in 1992, the same year as the release of the original Aladdin (1992), but this was proven wrong closer to the film's release when Massoud himself officially confirmed that he was actually born in 1991, one year before the release of original film. Aladdin (2019) has the highest audience score (Rotten Tomatoes) out of all the Disney remakes, gaining a 94% rating from audiences despite its 56% rating by critics.

Someone be honest about the Jazmin. the lady that played Jazmin smh she was NOT a good actor I'm sorry people but that was bad. She didn't look like she loved Aladdin at all. The guy who played Aladdin was extremely spot on. You can tell he lived and breathed in Aladdin as a role. So it made it Painfully obvious how the lady who played Jazmin did not live up to real Disney expectations. Jazmin is a princess who is supposed to be flirty, and seductive. She falls in love with Aladdin. I didnt see ANY love expressed from her. I didn't believe it at all. Which a the big part of the movie . Soo, that's why i give this movie an 8, because of that.

I was 11 when Aladdin came out in '92 and I instantly fell in love with the film and soundtrack 😍👏 Now fast forward to Thursday night and I've now seen the live adaptation at 38 🤯 I won't lie, I was super skeptical about the film for so many reasons but the main reason was that Robin Williams could never be replaced as the Genie. I was ready to leave the theater within the first 20 minutes due to the pacing of the film but I knew I couldn't do that without seeing what the always charismatic Will Smith could possibly do to fill these impossible blue shoes 🤔 I am SO glad that I stayed because as soon as the Friend Like Me song started the movie flipped the nostalgic kid switch in me 😃 It was such an amazing sequence and I knew instantly that Will Smith was the perfect casting for this role. I'm certain that Robin Williams would approve of his respectful take 💙 If you have reservations about this film, let them go. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with what entire cast and crew were able to create. It may not be a whole new world but it's pretty close 😉👍

I don't understand the point of these live action remakes. It's the same story, same characters even the same songs. So I may as well just watch the original and I won't exactly be missing out on anything
@BIadelores

The point is that Disney likes bread and they be wanting more. BUT! The Jungle Book remake wasn't pointless, it had a totally different vibe going on from the movie, it was a lot darker. Same movie mostly but it FELT different. That's how all these live action remakes should be, they should spin it in some way that feels fresh while still being a classic story, but they don't really care to do that. I guess JB was just miracle.

Why is it ok to redo Shakespeare for a 100th time, but not Aladin? Both of them are classic stories that existed for hundreds of years. Classic stories are remade all the time. Before Disney got its hands on Aladin in the 90s, the story have been retold literally hundreds of times in dozens of nations and multiple medias, including animation. I dont get why people have decided that 90s animated Aladin is the only version that could possibly ever exist. I understand that people have nostalgic attachment to that movie, but in the grand scheme of things it means squat. In the centuries before us Aladin was retold hundreds of times, and after we are all dead it will be retold hundreds of times again. It the nature of classic stories to be retold again and again. That is precisely what makes them classic.

@@badquestion4785 No body is copying the same adaptation of shakespeare. They just do their own version of his plays. Aladin is a story from the Arabian nights. Why do a copy of an adaptation? it's pointless. Just readapt the original story is your own way.

I'm pretty sure Arabian Nights was at least mostly him at the beginning as it's credited as being him. But flat? Idk. It was posted online officially a few days ago and EVERYONE in the comments was talking about how amazing it sounded and some even liked it better than the original. So idk what the problem is Will's singing. In some parts I hear it. Is it A-class singing? No. Neither was Robin Williams. The musicals were a different story. But in these songs it mostly flowed pretty well. And you're criticizing Arabian Nights? I'm sorry but I have to STRONGLY disagree. lol

It's funny how Will gets the blame for this movie. Once I heard Disney hired Guy Ritchie as writer and director i knew it was gonna be bad. A movie like this is not something thats in Guy Ritchie's toolbox. He good at the types of films he has been doing (Snatch, Lock, Stock, etc), not this kind of thing.

@@MRGooodwineTV You were right. Went and saw it for myself w/ my son and we both enjoyed it. The Jasmine song is jarring for where they put it and the weird (Guy Ritchie style) speeding up thing doesn't work for me and looks odd and nuts. Other than those 2 small things, its a good movie. Will Smith did a great job, he did his own thing and in the songs, it was more Fresh Prince than Will Smith. So that was great imo.

The speechless song would have worked better if it had been done in two parts. The first part could have been earlier in the movie, where Jasmine sings of how no one listens to her. Then the second part could have been okay where it is currently placed, where Jasmine sings that they WILL listen to her.
