Have soaked the flame spreader on no. 23, without success. What else can I do to remove the flame spreader?

I've found using Liquid Wrench works very well at removing stubborn parts. My great grandparent's lamp wasn't used in at least 46 years, my guess is they bought it in the mid 1930s. All the removable parts were practically cemented together from years of kerosene 'varnish'. WD40 didn't work, but the Liquid Wrench spray did.

Late to the party but, Sea Foam top engine cleaner/lubricant spray works wonders on most lantern gunk.

Is there anywhere I can still find a flame spreader for a model 23 aladdin lamp that doesn't require some kind of hack in order to get it to work....thanks for any info.

Do you have the correct type for the model burner you are using?

@@tinecrinec4769 I have the same question, I'm re-assembling an old model B that I just got, and the flame spreader does not lock into the central tube, so that when the wick is raised the flame spreader gets pushed up also. I have the original Aladdin diagram of parts for the model B and the flame spreader that I have looks exactly like the one in the picture. I can't figure out how it is supposed to latch into the central tube.

@@cavenewt9980 It doesn't actually latch in on the model B. It is pretty much just supposed to fit in tight, that's it. I've seen the same issue you are having problems with happen on a few of my model B's. My guess is that over periods of use the metal changes size slightly enough to not fit right anymore. Plus the fact that original/NOS spreaders are 75+ years old. I have found that new reproduction spreaders fit right, but as far as I know they are not made in nickel, only brass, so they won't match your burner unless you've got a brass one.
