A young chap I know has bought 13 acres of off grid wood land with an inheritance. He has faithfully restored an 18thC shepards hut, and I offered him my Aladin 21 that belonged to my parents from back in the days of the 1970's power cuts and three day week. I found your film very helpful to restore it for him. Wonderful that parts can be obtained on Ebay.

Wow, this was very helpful. You showed many tips & tricks I didn’t know. One question I still have (if you are still available, this video IS 3 yrs old!) is about cleaning the wick. You mention it nonchalantly, as if we all know how to do it, but I’ve been having trouble with that chore. When I first inherited my Aladdin lamp, I didn’t know how to use it at all, so I found a local guy who works on them & he very kindly gave me the rundown & a wick cleaner tool that fits in the place of the wick spreader. You then turn it around a couple times to even out the top of the wick, but the last time I used it, it didn’t touch the carbonned part of the wick. Could you put out a video on how to trim/clean the top of the wick, pretty please? The kind man who helped me before is no longer in business. 🙏😊

I am new to Aladdin Lamps and this was a very informative tutorial for me. I found an Aladdin B at a Thrift store for $35 and a tabletop Genie for $2.99. Both are obviously old but in good shape and were complete minus the chimney. I bought a new chimneys, wicks, mantles, and additional parts which appear to be interchangeable between the lamps. Definitely I'm on the learning curve.

do you sell the whole burner set thing? I don't know the names of all the parts, and where do you buy wicks. what wicks do you ask for? I sound stupid, but I'm just ignorant, and I'm trying to learn.

What do you think about using diesel fuel instead of very expensive kerosene ? my neighbor says he's been doing it for years and has never seen a problem
@wellsurefolks5006 Жыл бұрын
No. Only use Aladdin fuel. He might have a different insight, but regular kerosene is ok but not as good as Aladdin.

I have a model 23 that I'm trying to awaken from 40 years of dry storage. The wick raiser will not turn either way, and the knob pulls off from the splined shaft with attempts to disengage the gears. I wet the old wick with oil and filled the lamp 4 days ago. The wick raiser still will not move. Any ideas on how I can fix this?
@Kerosenecanada8 ай бұрын
Looks like that burner is no longer serviceable. The wick raiser needs to work. You can take it apart and rip/cut the old wick out but it will not be worth the time spent if you can’t repair the raiser mechanism. I would search for a replacement burner complete. Cheers

Found a beehive dark amber color with a shade that is light tan. Guy says the shade is a rare color. Seems knowledgeable. Look original. Is that true. That off white color is more rare? Burner works good. $350. Should I grab it.
@Kerosenecanada Жыл бұрын
The lamp is worth about $150. I would have to see a picture of the shade to evaluate. Plain shades are not worth that much though. Send pics to dave@kerosenelamps.ca I can tell you more then. Cheers

Just bought my first Aladdin a model B from an online auction, but it turns out the wick holder is cracked like you mentioned and its missing the flame spreader. It also needs a mantle of course. Do you think its worth it to get this one going or should I buy a new burner and chimney?
@Kerosenecanada2 жыл бұрын
I would definitely fix it. They are a good running burner when set up. You will need to pay attention to flamespreader height as the new ones can be 1 mm or so too tall. Good luck

@@Kerosenecanada Really appreciate the reply. After some research I've found its a B-85 from 1937. I'l buy the new parts to get it running. Is it normal for a Lox on chimney from that era to not have Aladdin written on it anywhere I can see?

Is there any way to repair the wick riser gears that are attached to the knob that adjust the flame up and down. It appears that the gears are loose. I have inspection the gears have all their cogs. They are just loose. As you know difficult to get to.
@Kerosenecanada2 жыл бұрын
They can be repaired. I used to know someone who did this and charged $20. If we are talking Model B, I can sell a used basket for that price now. Pricing has dropped on lamps. Cheers

How do you fix a flame spike on a max bite 300 thanks
@Kerosenecanada3 жыл бұрын
I would start with a new wick. When you put the outer wick tube in, tighten very tight, don’t break it though. Get a sharpie pen. Draw a line from the outer wick tube and burner to show the the installed location. Light up the lamp, warm on low for 15 minutes and then turn up till it starts to spike. When it spikes, turn it down until it looks like it the max bright. If it’s not good at all, let cool. Take the outer wick tube and loosen a little. Repeat the process of warm up and max bright operation. Look for an improvement. If not , remove the outer wick tube and install in a new position. If all else fails, replace wick tube, gallery or the whole burner. Good luck.

Is the wick new? If no, trim it and try again. If it’s still not burning correctly, then a new wick is the next step. Cheers

another stupid question, I use lamp oil from walmart for my reg cole oil lamp, do I need to use only kerosene in the aladdins? gosh I sound so stupid.
@jasoncook53076 ай бұрын
Only use kerosene #1 or aladdin lamp fuel or the wick will burn up due to the incorrect viscosity and or combustion temperature.

I read not to use any oil with paraffin in it.

@@JP-nq7wf Depends on which context it's used in. Paraffin is the English word for American kerosene, they use paraffin cookers (stoves) and lamps. Americans use paraffin for canning.

@@Kerosenecanada I just inherited my Great Grandmother's 100 acre homestead in Catamount, New Brunswick, Canada (you can find it on Google Earth) from my 94 year old Uncle who passed away last March. There is an old camp on the property that 100 years ago was actually the general store for the settlement. I remember when I was a boy my grandfather, who was a black smith for the Canadian National Railroad, had a caboose Aladdin Lamp on a giro (?) wall mount in the camp. About 45 years ago the camp was broken into and the lamp was stolen but the wall mount with the ceiling protector is still there. I just purchased at auction a Type B Aladdin table lamp. I'm going to get it going tomorrow.

That video was more about problems with burner when cleaning and such. They are other videos that cover this. Do you have a new wick in the lamp? Did you spin the gallery as in the video? If you did then just replace the outer wick tube , then the gallery and finally the whole burner. I find that on B burners, uneven wicks are usually the problem.

I have 3 #23 Aladdins and they're so temperamental I bought three #3 Queen Anne burners to replace the horrible Aladdin burners. Just bought a new wick for one Aladdin burner and the wick raiser won't catch the metal clips. it raises up and down but the pops right off the wick. USELESS. Also, one would think Aladdin (or SOMEONE) would develop a wick that isn't so high maintenance. (I have a 1900s center draught lamp that works perfectly so it's not that I'm completely clueless.) And another thing... I'm burning paint thinner/low odor mineral spirits at $13/gallon and it works fine in a center draught lamp.
