The woman who was the singing voice of Jasmine for “A Whole New World” is also the singing voice for Mulan! Her name is Lea Salonga, and she’s one of the most acclaimed entertainers to ever come from the Philippines. She was the first Asian woman to win a Tony award on Broadway, as well as being the first Asian woman to play certain roles in musicals such as Les Miserables. Most especially, she was given a “Disney Legend” award in 2011 for her work within the Disney company ❤

The voice work here is one of the best: Robin Williams, Jonathan Freeman (Jafar), Gilbert Gottfried (Iago), Frank Welker (Abu), etc... Plus the singing talents of Lea Salonga & Brad Kane. Of course, the animation is top notch, especially for Genie & Carpet. After The Little Mermaid & Beauty and the Beast, composer Alan Menken was on a roll.

RECOMMENDATION: Lea Salonga and Brad Kane performing 'A Whole New World' live at the 1993 Oscars. They bodied that performance🥹 I also recommend the Fox Studios princess movie 'Anastasia' if you want a cool, strong leading lady and an iconic villain along with the Disney movie 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame '. The genie scenes were animated around 30 hrs of William's dialogue recordings in studio. They were so long because much of what he said was added unscripted ad lib. A good portion of that ad lib was used in the movie.

I hope I'm not the only person that remembers that movie. 40:13 I don't understand the obsession with numbers. The fact that it was listened to more doesn't make it a better song. Yes it was used as a theme song in commercials promoting The Little mermaid so of course it was huge but the most impactful song in the movie for the story the character and for the audience is "part of that world". I won't say which one is a better song, but we know which one is the bigger song (under the sea)
