With the on set of cold weather, I decided to fire up some of the Aladdin lams and show them off. I also pontificate on how nice it is to have shades on Aladdin lamps. It is not just for looks, unless you enjoy looking at the sun.

I noticed after time that the tripod can cause chips on the rim of the shade. I solved that by slipping some transparent shrink tube over the tripod arms, only an inch on each one will do. Thank you!

Hi ricafe have you become a flat earther yet? If not I suggest watch a 13 part series called _What on earth happened_ by Ewaranon to learn that the earth is not a globe. I got it in my about tab.

I am fairly new to collecting Aladdin lamps and my first one was inherited from my Dad. He got it when his Aunt Mary passed. I was 12 at that time. He passed in 2001 at the age of 80 and I am 67 so it is probably at least 80 or more years old. Currently I have now 2 Model 6 burner lamps and am having trouble finding a fitter for the second one. Do you know of anyone who might have one for sale? I got one from the man in Canada who has these lamps but he could only spare one.

I live in PA, seems like everyone in PA buys these for "prepping" so there are no shades left for simple enthusiasts such as myself. I have to turn to Ebay at about 90 dollars a pop or back order them from specialty websites for about the same.

Nice variety of Aladdin lamps you have there. Only two negatives with them are the heat when you don't want heat, and the stink when you extinguish the flame. If it isn't too cold outside I take them out before turning them off. I do worry about thermal shock and cracking the glass fonts so be aware is it's extremely cold. Same for refueling with cold kerosene, there is potential to crack the glass.
@okbridges6 жыл бұрын
Very good tips there. And the kerosene being at room temperature is very important on some glass models, such as the Colonial. this is because of the way the stem is attached to the font. Thermal stress can cause this point to break, so lukewarm water only when cleaning too.

I hate seeing all of the "electrified" Aladdin lamps. Im slowly growing a small collection. Scouting for my 3rd lamp.
@nunyabizness1995 жыл бұрын
Always kills me when I see Aladdins that somone has massacred, especially since they make an electric burner for them and have since way back when electricity came on line...😒 Nice fan"s" too, by the way..
@okbridges5 жыл бұрын
Yes, I agree! I've seen many where some butcher has actually drilled a hole in the font on a glass lamp to run the line cord, hacks out the burner, and generally made trash out of these lamps.

Ditto, I hate it when they electrocute these perfectly good old oil lamps with unbelievable performance. The circular Wick lamps blow the flat Wick lamps back into the 1700s. Although you've got to remember that these are so old, and most people were quite poor, that when the rural electrification Act came through and people started getting electricity they did whatever it took to hook everything up extremely inexpensively. And they were happy about it.

Can you help me , I have caboose Aladdin lamp, how do know what size globe and chimney I have a nu type b thank you and for your video
@okbridges2 жыл бұрын
Your lamp will require an Aladdin Lox-on chimney. As far as where it attaches to the lamp, they are made in only one size.
@kratomseeker52584 жыл бұрын
question, what did they do when it was extremely hot i assume they did not use them when it was to hot.
@okbridges4 жыл бұрын
My guess is that during the warmer parts of the year when days were long, they did not use lamps as much after the sun set and went to bed shortly after.
@rickschulte85942 жыл бұрын
Oops how dio you measure for the size you need in shades. Thank you. Ima newbie

Measure the diameter where the shade rests on the tripod.

Clear K-1 kerosene. I buy it by the gallon from a station that sells it from a locked pump.

@@chris2crazzy It is a flat wick lamp. Yes, you can put a shade holder and shade on it. If you have a standard size No. 2 burner with a 1" wick and a 3" fitter where the chimney attaches to the burner, it will make finding parts much easier, as this is a common burner. Otherwise, you will have to measure your burner and determine what parts you need.
