The modes are particularly special for how they strongly perplex and confuse me at times, and probably others, when not being used to the coming passages. I got the effect strongly when I first tried them. Its a spectacular effect.

Beautifully performed, and that second Chorale had a strange registration. I think I would use it as a prelude or a postlude for the Maundy Thursday service during Holy Week - or possibly for a Good Friday service. It captures the mood perfectly. Thank you for sharing this with us. I’m getting ready to start learning these two Chorales.

Though the aforementioned example is not exactly 'strange' as some others present in his works, it is to be pointed out that Alain was certainly notable for his unusual and idiosyncratic approach to the art of organ registration; exemplified numerous times throughout his prolific œuvre.
