Alamgir was born in 1954, in East Bengal what is now Bangladesh is of Bangladeshi descent. His father Formujal Hoq was a politician from Daulatkhan, Bhola in Bangladesh and represented that constituency in the Bengal Legislative Assembly. In Pakistan, he was EBDOED by Field Marshal Ayub Khan debarring him from politics and in that state he died leaving Alamgir and his other siblings to fend for themselves.
