We are able to really notice other people when we are PRESENT! Mindfulness has to come first. Being present and comfortable in your life and body and in the moment is the jewel and seed that empathy and peace will grow from.

Not only is Alan Alda the best speaker i ever seen and the video done really well (i still cant figure out if he was using a green screen or not), but what he sais still manages to be the most interesting thing about it. The lack of interest in others and the resulting failure to communicate in dialogues where both sides are trying to achieve a common goal sounds like something less important then tentions between two global superopwers, but if you look at a longer period of time you will realize conflicts come and go (unless they are nuclear), but the evolution of or society shapes our future permanently.

Mr. Alda, you gave a talk, where you spoke of receiving a letter at your home sent by a girl facing terrible circumstances in her life. That may have been me, as when I met Shecky Greene via my grandma, I had told him I wanted to be a writer and he gave me your address. (There was more to it -- he'd asked who my favorite comedian was and I said you, and he nearly fell off his chair, "Why HIM?!" I gave a bunch of examples, but also said I want to be a writer, and you were the first one I actually saw as a real, physically moving around person.") Anyhow, I thought I threw it away so I wouldn't be the same intrusion on your life and that of your kids that one of my father's clients had been. But if, in a moment of hormonally amplified angst, I did mail one of the many letters I wrote to you like a diary, I want you to know how much I appreciate your answering the problems as you did, via MASH. This talk you give on empathy rises again to the task, as I, myself, try to help a young teen facing so many circumstances. Thank you for your amazing empathy -- for getting it all so right, for being so helpful, and for continuing to be so. An aside: Recently, I was hospitalized with colitus. But because I have residuals from a brain injury, I didn't want any anesthesia. So they did the colonoscopy without it, and in the middle of it, I started laughing because I remembered your colon issue story that you made so funny. I wasn't thinking my situation was funny beforehand, but you made me see that it is like writng, where so many things are funny much later. You just bum-ped up the process. A lesson in how even the stories you tell of your own life become funny as your empathy allows you to tell it in ways that are aware of where someone else may be. Thank you again for all you have done and continue to do. Joy, Peace, good health, and just everything you want for your life and that you see needed in the lives of those you love, Angelle

and they come to you and you do not know why. they trust you and you are bewildered. and the smile on your face will answer your question. close the door and few will enter. open it and quite a few will take a peek inside. the mirror indeed. we can only see whats on the surface. there is a lot we cannot see since it is not on the surface. never forget that.

Empathy is a valuable tool, Nobody uses. America is so uneducated and angry. A deadly combination. I stutter, so I've been "abused" my entire life from people, angry stupid people. They've driven me into a cave and set a fire outside. I'll never get over the decades of pain and anger, I'm so angry!
